It looks odd, I know, let's get that out of the way. Ever since my husband bought TPA Mary Jane, he has played around with so many profiles to try and bring a darker, more realistic vibe to it. It's a hard one to work with for sure. It can be great in lower percentages for an earthy pine, but on its own, it really doesn't represent itself well.
This is his recipe, I have just tweaked the AP percentage and have added Lovage Root for a semi-dark sweetness. I already know the component in Lovage Root is in several of my favorite tobacco flavors, so I thought it would add that right amount of earth/sweetness. I happened to try this the last few times I have made it for him, each time with little tweaks and I really enjoy it. While TPA Mary Jane really isn't realistic beyond a sort of skunky smell, it's turned out really well.
Looks good and quite different. If your looking for a decent Mary Jane type flavor please check out euro flavors Amsterdam. I still need to pick those new flv tea flavors :(
He wants that one, but I didn't see it at NR with the other Euro Flavors. Anywhere you would recommend that carries it? I know it's supposed to be so much better.
Hmm, perhaps an actual use for my long neglected bottle of MJ? :D
Missing the teas and the Lovage Root here but have been considering acquiring them, just needed some additional persuasion ... this might do it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Juice Junkie, I'm gonna just break down and get it for him. There's actually been a few from there I have wanted as well, so the code helps out!
NGAHaze, I understand. When I tested MJ as a SF it was atrocious. Tried it with Blueberry, still atrocious. This, I actually like. If you do get the Tea flavors, make sure to take a look at Eisai as well. If you like Honeysuckle notes, you would really enjoy that one, it's delicious. The Lovage Root might seem like an oddball flavor, but it's actually quite pleasant in tobacco flavors too.
Juice Junkie, what you would start the Amsterdam at for a minimal recipe? I'm going to do two, one with a simple Lavender/Vanilla base, and then one with Amsterdam/Cannabis Type/Lavender/Vanilla. I just can't find any good percentage info for it.
Ah thanks, I did a knuckle test straight out of the box, and it tasted a little on the less potent side, so that sounds like it would be right around my liking. I have also been liking Blueberry as an accompanying flavor, only most BB have been bright, and I wish I had a darker, more jammy BB flavor to go with it. Thanks!
Fw or medicine flower BB are my favorites right now. Try adding a drop of lemon when using BB for some reason it really makes the BB pop. Crazy but it works.
I finally acquired the flavors I was missing to try this ... or so I thought. :( I thought I already had the Black Tea but it was FA rather than FLV. I believe the FA version is probably a little more bitter than the FLV ( just judging by appearances ) but perhaps not quite as potent. I'm going to try the recipe anyway using FA but might bump it up a tad. I know it won't be the same but hey, no guts no glory right? :D
NGAHaze, I think it's actually OK that you're not using the FLV Black Tea, I mean pretty much it's sole purpose in this was for darkness, something to counter the intense 'greenness' of TPA Mary Jane. If you want you could try without the FA, but that's one I haven't tried. TPA does have a newer offering called Cannabis Type which has a nice citrus to it. It's fun to play around with. Be sure to let me know how it turns out if you use the FA Black Tea, that sounds like a neat substitute. I'm excited to see how it turns out. 👍
Thanks Silhouette, for the recipe and your help, much appreciated. I didn't get to mix this last weekend but just finished doing so now. I can see why you paired MJ with Yakima Hops, nice call. The Green Tea smells great, I'm going to have to play around with that one some more too. I even like the Lovage Root which, to be perfectly honest, I was not so sure about initially, lol. I did pick up the other tea ( Eisai ) that you mentioned previously and it smells great too.
I went ahead and used FA Black Tea @ the listed percentage. I might play around with that level a little. I'm going to give this a couple days to meld but even with just a sniff test, it has me intrigued. While the MJ is still prominent ( as you would expect right after mixing ) I do believe the Black Tea has cut down the sharper 'green' notes and I expect that will continue to occur as it steeps.
I never thought I'd say this after my first experience with MJ but now I'm even considering picking up the newer TFA Cannabis Type flavor, thanks to you! :D
Thanks again for your help, I'll definitely let you know how it turns out but I'm already pretty optimistic. I like vapes that are a little 'different'. :)
I hope you enjoyed! The Lovage can be a little odd to work in things sometimes, but I think it's good for darkness and a little added viscosity. The Cannabis Type is really yummy paired with Amsterdam (thanks to Juice Junkie). My favorite MJ mix so far had to be Lavender Vanilla w/ Amsterdam and Cannabis Type, they meld perfectly.
Nice! Major kudos to you, you managed to turn MJ into something I now enjoy vaping. To be honest, at first I wasn't sure it was going to work for me but the more I vaped it, the more I liked it. The pineyness ( is this even a word? lol ) of it was upfront at first but it mellowed out considerably as I vaped it. I think some of that might have been due to a flavor I had vaped in the tank beforehand which seemed to accentuate that aspect of the recipe. Subsequent refills did not exhibit that issue which would seem to confirm that suspicion.
I'll definitely be making more of this ( already vaped the 30ml I made initially ) and I think I will bump up the FA Black Tea slightly at least until I get around to ordering the FLV Black Tea. Just for kicks, I'm also thinking of introducing a minor lemon element; for some reason, it just struck me that it would complement this mix.
Who makes the Lavender Vanilla? I've already added Amsterdam and Cannabis Type to my list, no reason to stop there, lol!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I, tried to get as close as I could flavor-wise without tasting skunky at all. The Lavender I use for it is FA Lavender, I just don't use alot. In the Lavender Cannabis mixes, I stay at 0.25-0.45% with it. The Lavender and Vanilla are separate flavors, although I wish there was a really nice Lavender Vanilla flavor. The Vanilla I usually use in it is Madagascar (FA) or sometimes FW French Vanilla, just because they are a little cleaner in Vanilla taste, without a buttery or eggy background, but FLV Vanilla Bean works nicely too. I add a drop or two of Marshmallow (Vanilla) OOO when doing that mix, just to bridge the Vanilla and Lavender.
It's private, but this is the Vanilla Lavender with Cannabis Type and Amsterdam. It's a super simple mix, but I really enjoy it. It reminds me of the Indica Blend CBD, which tasted really nice.
I have been also tinkering with the idea of making a VG blend using Sour CBD (flower). It would probably take a few weeks to really impart the flavor of the CBD, and I was thinking I may actually grind the blend in the VG itself, to get all of the flavor. Like a cold maceration technique. It may not be as potent flavorwise, but it could be a nice additive to some of my mixes.
Thanks Silhouette! Of course I'm missing the Lavender ... only have a few florals so far but I do like the look of your recipe so I'll probably pick it up too. Now what to do with the Violet, Rose and Ylang Ylang I have in my stash that I've done nothing with, lol.
Hmm, very interesting. I've toyed around with the idea of trying some extractions myself but haven't actually gotten beyond the contemplation stage. :( I'd love to hear how yours goes if you do try it. I bet it would be good. I know several people that make their own tobacco blends with great results.
