Excellent!!! Just mixed 10 ml 20PG/80VG 4mg/ml and tried some without steeping and all I can say this is on par if not better dan Halo's tribeca. Absolutly loving it!
Great juice!!!
I made 50 ml 20PG/80VG 4mg/ml and I'll let it steep for 10 days... Can not imagine an even better taste :D
This, and a Milk & Honey recipe, are the very first DIY juices I’ve ever mixed (I’m a n00b). The M&H recipe was great, imo perfect as is and I love it. But, there is something very off about this Tribeca recipe imo.
The Smell is definitely there and spot on - exactly like Tribeca and delicious.
The taste is off though. I mixed it and waited a week to steep before first trying it out. After a 7 day steep, it was very harsh, “perfumy”, “soap’y” and strong; so I waited a few more days. At 10 day steep, it smoothed out; but only very slightly. It is now at day 13 steeping and it is still tasting the same - strong, perfumy, chemically, medicine’y, soap’y (but smells very good).
I can hardly taste any of the rich, delicious and smooth RY4 Caramel and Graham Cracker flavors like I can in the original Tribeca (they seem hidden or behind the chemical/perfume’y/soapy tasting stuff). But, I can def Smell those flavors in this recipe (and they do smell Good). Is the high % of AP and/or EM in this recipe hiding those RY4 caramel and graham cracker flavors too much?
I can tell the taste is “there” (to what Tribeca is), is decent and kinda vapable;. It actually has much more flavor and aroma than Tribeca. But, it’s a little hard to vape and off-putting to me because there is something about it making it very odd, medicine’y/soap’y tasting, harsh and weird.
Is it because it has too much AP and/or EM? I’m reading other highly-rated recipes, and they all usually only use AP at 0.5-1% and EM at 0.5-2%. This recipe, has AP at 2%, and EM at 3%. Maybe a bit too much?
Can anyone recommend me better AP & EM % numbers for this recipe please?
Would 0.5% AP and 1% EM work better? (that’s the usual AP & EM combo %’s I see other highly-rated recipes usually using).
Update:
Funny, this recipe is much much different and better (compared to my last post above) after just 2 more additional days of steeping (15 day steep total). The strong, harsh, perfume, soap, chemical and medicine qualities I mentioned before, are all almost pretty much gone now. It is much more even, rounder and smoother. Pretty delicious actually and good now. Just requires a minimum 14-15 day steep I guess.
BUT, I can still tell there is too much AP (there is a dominating bread-like "grain" texture on the exhale and aftertaste). I'm not sure if it has too much EM though, because I am a n00b and I don't know exactly what it tastes like yet and its' exact qualities...if I'd had to guess, it'd be those previously mentioned chemically, perfume/soap-like, sweet medicine notes (?). But, I can def tell there is too much AP/"Grain" texture and quality though.
I've read Graham Cracker already has a lot of AP in it; so I'm thinking this recipe doesn't need too much additional AP in it.
I made 2 small 7.5ml test batches with different and more reasonable AP & EM %'s:
1. AP 0.5% & EM 1%
2. AP 1% & EM 2%
I will wait 14 days to steep it before trying it out, and I will report back with my findings.
NaKiLLo and everyone (I almost forgot to post an update). Here's my short summary:
Original AP 2% & EM 3%:
Too much grain and bread. Too dry. Harsh. Chemically tasting (from the EM?). Seemed off balance and strong in certain almost indescribable places; but, in the flavor dept there are many things muted and overpowered by the AP &/or EM. I already posted my opinions of it above. This was after a proper 2 & 3 week steep as well.
AP 0.5% & EM 1%:
This was surprisingly very good and noticeably different than the Original recipe. Well-balanced and milder, in a good way. The grain is still there and it's not too weak at all (I guess AP truly is very strong stuff). And, with the much lower EM %, it is actually noticeably sweeter and much more enjoyable to vape. The sweetness now has a welcoming "wet" quality to it that gives a hint of sugar-lips (no more dry qualities like in the original). Maybe this is due to the fact that the lower EM didn't stunt the development of the RY4's caramel or other notes. This is my go-to now for this recipe.
AP 1% & EM 2%:
This too was different than both the original recipe and the aforesaid recipe (AP 0.5% & EM 1%) changes. Pretty much lands in between and shares characteristics of both; both the pros and cons (keep in mind, AP 0.5% & EM 1% was all pros) . But, I think it shares more commonalities to the original (sort of a toned down version of what I didn't like of the original recipe). It wasn't nearly as harsh, grainy and chemically as the original; but, those overpowering qualities were still there, and they were still too strong. That said, although I like this tweaked version better than the original, I still found it too harsh, grainy and EM'ey. It was still dry, too much grain, had those weird chemically notes, etc.
The AP 0.5% & EM 1% version is much better imo and the one I'm sticking with from now on (I've already made a couple batches since).
Tarek, you really shouldn't mix 90 ml of a recipe you don't know if you will like or not. Trust me! I've thrown out alot like that when I first started a few years ago.
No prob. If you like this, try Pistachio RY4-U by Enyawreklaw. I stopped making TriBeCa a couple months ago and Pistachio is my go-to now when I want an RY4D vape.
Loved Tribeca back in the day. Gave this a try in 3 different mixes. One exactly as described here. Another with slightly more EM and less RY4 and another one with more Graham Cracker and less Ry4. Everything except the 1st attempt loses the unique RY4's aftertaste (Tried all of them WITHOUT steeping, just a shake and 2 hours of hot water opened caps). The 1st one filled me with memories :) but sadly after 2 days it doesnt taste the same, it was kinda muted, I can smell the RY4, cant taste it. I remember Tribeca's smell hitting my nose exactly after the cap opening. Obviously I m doing something wrong since I m fairly new to this. Even the AP 0.5% & EM 1% version didnt make it. Should I not leave this one with open cap at all? Maybe steeping will bring the flavor strength back? (my logic says the opposite). Any inputs appreciated people, thanks a lot.
I appreciate all the feedback. Everyone must keep in mind that this is a clone. My own version of this recipe. I've tried many different scenarios and this is the closest I could get. I have even tried some of the commented changes, but in the end have decided to sick with my original. ReaperOfSamcro I would not recommend leaving the lid off as I find this lets too much air in and mutes flavors. I sometimes vape this right away but it's better when steeped. Also PLEASE use flovors that are noted in recipe. Any other brand of flavor will drastically alter the taste of the final product. Glad some are enjoying this recipe. I believe we should all share our great mixes so no one has to spend WAY TOO MUCH on pre mixed juices. Happy Holidays to everyone and CHEERS!
tsantos8
Oh I m vaping this in happiness dont u worry about that. Using the exact same flavors except my EM is crystals diluted. Will keep altering this in small batches until I get it perfect for my tastes. Thanks so much for sharing and happy holidays to you too!
@tsantos8, i followed your instructions and after 13 days I tried the juice, I cannot stop vaping it, 5 stars from me and thank you very much for saving me a lot of money from now on as Halo Tribeca used to be my all day vape.
Tried 4 different ry4 recipes & pistachio RY4 concentrate & this recipe is head & shoulders above the others, to me. Very similar to uncle junks john Wayne, one of my favorites.
Going to make a 250ml batch today. This will be a permanent fixture in my ADV rotation.
Deadly Sin V2 clone was supposed to be similar to JW but it was a lil too butterscotchy for me. This Halo clone is closer to JW IMO & I only steeped for 1 day so I figure it gets even better after 10 days as recommended
LessTalkMoreDelicious,i couldn't agree more about pyrazine and maltol,,i did original recipe but with 0.5 ap and 0.8 em and it was much more better than original recipe ,not so heavy and ry4 is more noticable like this. Also i think that an addition of small amount of brown sugar tpa would be great as well cause i think tribeca and bebeca of atmos lab(clone of tribeca) has a bit of brown sugar.
@hollyclouds....did you figure out the answer to your question re EM5% vs EM10%? I have the same question.
Haven't DIYed yet but awaiting ingredients in the post and have my eye on this recipe.
Question 2: If I convert to VG/PG ratio: 70/30 how will this impact?
I would change the EM to 1.5% if using at 10%.
Also changing the VG/PG ratio is just personal preference. I prefer higher VG, but in this recipe I find it mutes the flavors too much... I tend to stick with 70 PG/ 30 VG for this recipe.
So I've been testing with this recipe long before I created an account and started sharing my experiments on this site.
I'm actually a big fan of tribeca and had tried quite my share of experiments before I found this clone recipe. Keeping in mind this is a take on tribeca that has a personal touch by the "chef" and is tailored to his taste and preference, I have to say that this is probably the best clone, all the flavors are there. So picking up on Lesstalmoredelicious's work on tsantos8's recipe, I share with you my results, all based on the AP 0.5 and EM 1.0 alteration, that for me is the most tribeca like, and 2 changes to flavors that made the difference for me in terms of closeness to the original. I've tested this recipe in multiple batches and tried severeal alterations, over a couple of liters of the stuff. This is my personal recipe, altered from this one, and it is tailored to my taste and preference to what gives the most tribeca feel like.
From Graham Cracker FW to Graham Cracker TPA (the normal and dark one) and from 5% EM to Cotton Candy (10% EM) TPA.
I made 4 batches: 1 with the suggested 30/70 PG/VG ratios; 1 max VG; 1 40/60; 1 50/50.
All of them with the alterations suggestd before. All there were tested with quadruple coils on a TFV8. All of them 0 mg/ml NIC, all of them in thick glass bottles with a closed cap (no dropper).
My findings:
Max VG is fine but the vapor production gained from this change ends up muting RY4 flavors and Graham Cracker, in the end it's a Bread vape, kinda nutty, not much flavor at all. Nice for an ADV but it's kinda like tribeca, except not.
30/70 is like Max VG actually, RY4D is there and there is a distinct tribeca feel to it, but it's still off, and it's not because there's brown sugar missing, it's just off and too nutty. This is the part where all the haters have to remember that this is a take from the author on the recipe, thank him for it, it's still the best clone out there.
40/60 it's the closest so far to the real thing. RY4D blends with the Cracker really nice, it's sweet, dry, tribeca like goodness. But the flavor is still not on point, it's kinda muted and the delivery is more random. Not all puffs tasted the same to me and even after a decent shake, the randomness remained a constant #nopun.
50/50 is, for me, the sweet spot. Even the colour is spot on. With high VG concentrations the color fades into a semi transparent beige. with 50/50 ratio you get that golden soft colour that resembles tribeca. The best of all is that it tastes like tribeca, has the same troat hit has tribeca and it smells just like tribeca.
I've made another 8 batches of this recipe but with added hazelnut and brown sugar. My experience is that the 4 that had the hazelnut didn't taste like tribeca at all and where to dry and earthy. The other 4 with Brown Sugar were too sweet for me and the sweetness overpowered the RY4D and punched all other flavors into some kind of mesh. Both Hazelnut and Brown Sugar where added at 1,5%. They still turn out great vapes, but they are not tribeca vapes.
Obviously there is a catch. all 12 bottles I've made from this recipe with all the alterations sat steeping for 30 days. all of them, on a closed bottle inside a cigar box with close to no humidity, in a dark and cold spot in my house. And all of them were made in glass bottles (this thing can actually melt plastic if it gets hot, remember that, I learned that the hard way with 50ml breaking a plastic bottle after a while).
So i'm no master mixer but I can tell you that the 50/50 ratio with Cotton Candy and Graham Cracker TPA do turn out a great tribeca clone, very close to the original, with a great throat hit and a lot of flavor.
My ADV for a long time now, and will stay that way since i've made over 500ml of the stuff.
Thank's to the author, this recipe saved me a lot of money.
Hope my input helps you all.
Will post my findings on the site with the respect the author deserves.
Here’s what may be a very good idea and something I’ve always wanted to try (but I haven’t yet since I’ve never bought this flavor yet):
Substitute TFA RY4D with FA (Flavour Art) RY4.
I’ve read many reviews that FA RY4 has the same taste, complexity and flavor profiles as TFA RY4D. BUT, with a much cleaner taste - not chemical’y, and doesn’t have that scoth-tape-like aroma/taste of the TFA RY4D.
That scoth-tape-like aroma/taste is actually something I really hate, and the #1 main reason why I actually stopped making this recipe a while ago (as well as stopped making DiyOrDie’s/Wayne’s Pistachio RY4-U recipe).
Flavour Art flavorings are much higher-quality (imo), classier and nicer than TFA stuff. So, I’m betting all those reviews I’ve read are correct - that FA RY4 is even better.
Hi from Greece.
I would like to try this recipe but I'm stuck at 5% ethyl maltol.
I can find only 10% ethyl maltol, is there any difference? Also what 5% stands for? Thanks
@Picolik, Graham Cracker (FW) avg. 3.7% median 2.5%
Graham Cracker (TPA) avg. 2.9% median 2.5%
Graham Cracker Clear (TPA) avg. 2.5% median 2%
FW subbed with Graham Cracker (TPA) I would go the same or a bit lower.
FW subbed with Graham Cracker Clear (TPA) I would calculate using the median: (2/2.5)*2.5 = 2% instead of 2.5%
@Noone, 5% Ethyl Maltol is just 5% ethyl maltol crystals dissolved in PG. Cotton Candy (TPA) is 10% Ethyl Maltol. If you have 10% just use 1.5% of it in this mix :)
Thanks for the reply lars! Can you tell me what median means? So we can use graham cracker at 2% without altering the taste? Sorry for my noob questions but I'm new to the game.
@LessTalkMoreDelicious : I'm following your advice. This recipe smells great and the taste is pretty much there, but it's muted and the richness of the RY4 is hampered somewhat. I'll report back after a decent steep..
Bro, I need some help, I am a total newbie and just started.
I made a big mistake on that recipe, what I bought was ethyl maltol actual crystals, I made the recipe on 100ML total juice, with 6mg nicotine, & PG/VG-ratio: 30/70 but, I added 3 grams of the pure crystals inside. LOL.
Is there any way to save this juice? It's steeping for 5 days, haven't tried it yet, but this crystals will take ages to melt in there, haha.
I actually did that before on another recipe, but I vaped it really fast, was good but I only made 10-20 ml of it.
From what I now understand I must dillute those crystals in PG 1:20 before using them to get a 5% ethyl meltol.
What should I add to save this 100 ml juice?
You understanded right you have to diluted those crustal before at 1:20.
Sorry it is hard to me to explaine in english what you can do now becouse my english is poor. Did you speak greeks?
@Laberythm Έλα φιλε ναι, Έλληνας είμαι, το θέμα ειναι οτι εχω ήδη ετοιμάσει το υγρο και πεταξα τους κρυσταλους οπως ητανε , 3 γραμμαρια στα 100 ML συνολικου υγρου. δεν το αραιωσα πιο πριν γιατι δεν γνωριζα. Τι μπορω να κανω τωρα;
If you like sweet vapes, and are a fan of Ry4, I came up with this recipe I call Scotch Ry. I'm new at this, so don't hesitate to let me know if you think it sucks, or have any advise on making it better. Thanks tjek.nu/r/jDHe
Im trying an adapted batch to compare FA RY4 to RY4D (which I've tired of). I'm dropping the RY4 to 8% to start; for the base, substituting 2% CC (Graham) - I love it's tanginess, and adding TPA French Vanilla Creme (a malted vanilla - yum!). I can't get enough vanilla LOL and I adore AP's hardiness (may try increasing in the future). I'll try to remember to report back.
BTW, do you have a recipe for making RY4 from scratch?
This recipe is slightly sweeter than the original Tribeca-there is another recipe called 3beca you guys might wanna try -it has a very different effect adding the flue cured INW and Virginia by FA-it needs about a month steep though for the Virginia to blend in properly. I have tried blending nut flavours as well with some success but find you guys might wanna try subbing 4%(maybe a little less or more depending on your palette)Walnut (I use wonder flavours)to the new pistachio RY-4 recipe.
Great juice!!!
I made 50 ml 20PG/80VG 4mg/ml and I'll let it steep for 10 days... Can not imagine an even better taste :D
