Early on the caramel dominates the flavor, but I found it becomes more complex with a bit of a steep. Top notch ADV candidate IMO. :)

I agree, really the cheesecake/custard just needs a chance to steep in and get that creaminess going. This has been heavy in my rotation since I made it.

TFA and FW both make a Caramel Candy. They're roughly the same strength too, so you should be able to sub it 1:1 if that's what you have.
