Here is my attempt at recreating the famous Red Astaire by Tjuice.
I know you can get the concentrate but where's the fun in that?
This is a work in progress so please get involved and try and replicate this complex favour!
Steep in hot bath for 30 mins, shake and leave to steep for a couple of days to bring the flavours together.
I suspect the longer it sits the better it will get?
Great taste very similar to the famous TJuice Red Astaire.( without the colouring! Lol)
All comments welcome!
No problem!
The Eucalyptus+mint inawera also provides that cool menthol hit which sits at the back.
I am continually playing with this and have a few variations sitting waiting.
Would love for a few more to get involved and take this forward.
Was looking forward to doing this so much that I got impatient and tried it not long after mixing (I also do this out of curiosity with my own mixes sometimes, so that's my excuse). The eucalyptus and mint nearly blew my head off! So much so that I can't taste anything else. Is this normal for menthol/mint type concentrates? I hope it mellows off during steeping, this could be a great recipe.
I understand where you are coming from.
I too suffer from impatience, especially when steeping is required! Lol
Yes the eucalyptus is quite strong.
It does mellow slightly after steeping.
I quite like a strong taste but you could drop it to 1% and it would probably be better.
I have actually been thinking this myself?
It is a good mix and as I said previously it is a work in progress, although all the flavour profiles are there, it is just a matter of tweaking really and hopefully more will jump on board and we will get it past the finish line! Lol
I have about 10 variations presently steeping so I will update and change the recipe accordingly.
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.
Let me know how you get on?
I'll let this steep for a week or so and let you know. I've got a bunch of 10ml bottles I don't really use so I'll try some variations in them. My initial thoughts are that the eucalyptus could be dropped slightly to let the fruits pop, and perhaps swap out the cherry for something really unlikely - for some reason cola pops into my head? Cola vape has that weird ultra cheap sweet cola taste that could work. Anyway I'll let you know. Cheers!
Ok
Dropped the eucalyptus INW down to 1% and added the Blackberry CAP which has a grape profile.
I've kept the cherry in but dropped that percentage as well.
This is a lot closer now to me although there is something missing?
To me it is an almost sickly flavour note and I am thinking maybe a Rum at low percentage?
Think I'll need to get another flavour order made, taking the cola and coffee suggestions into consideration.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and suggestions!
Very much appreciated!
This sounds good Chewy, how are you getting along with it now, any more updates, i will order the flavors i need to try it out, thinking the FA Blackcurrent is to high though, would love some updates though
Hi Stevd123
I am still playing around with this but it did take a back seat as I had far too many recipes on the go!
The flavour profile is there and I agree about the FA blackcurrant as it did overtake the mix slightly, much as the eucalyptus did.
I have updated the above to one of the various mixes I had on the go.
It is a lot closer now and on its own it is a great vape but I will endeavour to get the mix right?
Feel free to give any input.
Thanks for getting back to me Chewy, i will place an order for the liquids I'm missing and will get back to you, Red Astaire is one of my fave juices, but i live in the u.s so gets expensive ordering from the u.k all the time, Thanks
Itpains me to admit it, but after a few failures at this clone, I've been vaping the tjuice concentrate (at £10 for 30mls its really hard to grumble). But doing so has given me a few hints, for example; the blackcurrant vibe is more prominent than I first thought and the inawera blackcurrant smells identical so I'm gonna put that in. Another thing that I see in reviews of the actual juice itself is a likeness to cherry tunes sweets, so I've found a cherry concentrate (TPA cherry extract) that people also seem to think tastes like cherry tunes
But enough investigative research it's time to mix this sucker :)
After trying this clone, I found it very sweet so I added koolada at 2% and god damn it's close to the real thing. All I got to try and do now is try to get the sweetness down a little more. Bravo sir, a really good try.
I have also been trying to 'decode' the Red Astaire as it is one of my favorite juices. I do buy it and most of the other T-Juice concentrates and the price is fair so it's not really about saving money and more about cracking the clone :D
Made this one up and it has the right notes etc (the absinthe is a little high for my liking) but still something is missing and every time I vape R.A. it has that taste that is hard to nail.
@Chewy - Have you tried TFA Red Licorice? This has a very similar note to me to the one that I get from R.A. and I can certainly taste a licorice in R.A. but it is not as 'earthy' as the other 'black' licorice concentrates that I have (and being a fan I have a few).
I just mixed up a Carnage clone (strawberry + red licorice) and I think this might work with the Red Licorice. It would certainly fit the R.A. profile of red berries and blackcurrant. Red berries being Cherry & Strawberry with the licorice pairing nicely with the blackcurrant. Will know better once it has steeped a couple of days.
Just waiting on some vape mail (Inawera mixed mint) and will try a few variations on your current approach.
@MintyMods
Thank you for the feedback.
Yes the absinthe could be dropped along with the anise?
I am actually unsure about the cherry profile myself?
To be honest I haven't visited this as I have been tied up in other things! But no I haven't tried the red licorice yet but it does sound promising?
Please let me know how it turns out?
I actually have a few variations of this clone sitting in my cupboard, I really need to try them out and report as found!!,
I have Jamaican Rum from both FlavourArt and Flavour Apprentice so will knock up a couple of batches. What sort of percentage would you suggest?
F.A. Jamaican Rum @ .5%
TFA Jamaican Rum @ 2%
What do you think?
Should get my Inawera Mixed Mint today so will make up a sample with that in as seen a few comments saying that might be used for the Eucalyptus note...
To be honest it has been on my back burner for a while due to far too many mixes! LOL
This one is good, not an exact RA clone, more of the flavour profile and enjoyable in its own right.
Not sure that forest mix is the right taste so will try another berry mix and also I will adapt the anise profile and probably drop the grape.
So further work needed but please feel free to join in the fun, the more the merrier!
I will have a go on this one soon. Like yourself I'm have far too many experimental mixes and clones going at the moment. Have roughly 40-50 different blends in bottles for about 10 different recipes! This mixing lark is ridiculously tough (especially for us perfectionists)
@Elite Liquids no worries.
Normally I only post recipes I am 100% happy with! many more are dispersed with via the kitchen sink! This one is quite complex in its layers that is hard to pin down but I fell I am not 100 miles away with it. Maybe overthinking it so my next round will be to strip back but the main issue is getting the berry mix just right, the rest will fall in place I am sure?
Hi guys, i also gave this one a shot and let me inspire by OP, mixed in 50ml bottle: 0.4ml mentholyptus, 1ml aniseed, 0.6ml absinthe, 2ml wild strawberry, 2ml white grape, 0.5ml lime zinger, 1ml rasberry, and 2ml black currant
Every flavor is from decadent vapours except the black currant, black currant is from a danish vendor named bolchehuset
Hey Chewy, around the time I was working on this I may have accidentally gave up and started smoking again. Oops. But I'm back now and vaping my beloved red astaire from the official concentrate. Anyway, by a matter of bizarre coincidence, I met an ex t-juice employee and obtained the official recipe! Is there any way I can message you? I tried on here but I don't think I can due to no forum activity. Cheers
Alright, I'll divulge :) I'm a bit shit at explaining things but here's the problem: the concentrates aren't available from any website other than the manufacturer's (all UK btw) and they all seem to only take business enquiries if you get my drift. There's only 3 concentrates, 2 from 1 company and 1 from another, and I've emailed both of them to see if they'll send a smaller quantity for a mere peasant consumer. Fingers crossed although I doubt they take such orders. I'll let you know how it goes.
If you want the details we should message privately but I'll give you the general idea, altho I'm not sure how helpful it'll be.
Aniseed
Red grape
Mint
That's it!! Not much of a surprise at all really, but it just goes to show how much we've overthought it when in the end, it really all boils down to the quality of concentrates...
The lush taste of red berries and black grape is stampeded by verbose overtones of sweet eucalyptus, aniseed and menthol in a flavour that will stay dancing on your tongue for a long time after you have exhaled.
There may be eucalyptus in the "mint" concentrate, and there may be red berries and the "red grape" concentrate, or it might even be a placebo effect from being told it tastes like such and such... but it's a fact that it only contains these three concentrates. All I can say is, after years of vaping red astaire is that it's like a fruity blackjack. Hell, if you scroll up you'll see that I once thought it was blackcurrant. What's interesting is the fact that there's only three concentrates, we just don't have easy access to them.
Still think there's too much aniseed compared to the Tjuice version so I adaped it and did another version with a couple of tweaks.
I'll test it again after steeping.
Mugen... Which company make the concentrates as I can use a business account to make purchases. I'm in the UK as well so won't have any difficulty in ordering. I'd be then happy to pass on concentrates as required to those who cannot make orders for themselves.
I always assumed they used flavour art.
@mugen
Please accept my apologies in getting back to you.
First time I've revisited this for a while.
Interesting with regards to your info. I posted my thoughts earlier on that although I was close I was maybe overthinking things? So I can really see it being just 3 flavours.
If you want to drop me a message and I will try out.
Many thanks for your thoughts and input, really appreciated!
Thee Red Grape juice is probably similar to how red wine is made. Most red wines contain a certain amount of other fruits in them, therefore it's likelythat any red grape concentrate would contain certain other fruits ie. the blackcurrant taste.
#chewy, just wondering if you are finished with this recipe? was thinking of making it and adding a little strawberry taffy@ 1% what are your thoughts on this
Has anyone tried the method by mindseye69?
Feedback?
I use loads and loads of red Astaire so would love to clone it at last. The thing is I don't vape as is. It comprises 10% of a 22% based recipe I made that is soo much better than just red Astaire. I do want to share my recipe but it's been making me so much money. I actually can't keep up with demand. I don't buy from t-juice with their bullshit 4 bottles max and no free delivery. Was ok when they used to do the 40% off codes and then just create multiple separate orders but these days other resellers with discount codes let me buy 20 or 30 of the 30ml bottles at a lower rate and then apply discount code.
I do want to share the recipe because it's amazing. But it's not cheap it uses vampire vape, flavour art, TPA (that's cheap though) and capable products.
I may choose to share with the odd trusted elr long term member if they swear not to share via pm as it is really good. And I want to share. But my customers know my elr presence and it would honestly cost me thousands to release my recipe.
Please bear in mind this isn't the recipe for red Astaire I'm talking about but my recipe utilising it.
My creation would be impossible without and took me 8months to get to the final point.
This recipe doesn't have INW Red Fruits & Mint which is the main ingredient of real red Astaire I'm 1000% sure. If you want a real red Astaire clone you will need to use that as a base, and remember most of the flavoring companies didn't exist when red Astaire was made so you can be sure there's no FA or such in it. It's likely INW, TPA and maybe CAP. I have a feeling it's mostly inw. I have a very close clone but unfortunately I don't have the right to share it as it belongs to my employer. I will say that the main ingredient is INW Red Fruits and Mint, and the Blackcurrant is CAP, there is also INW anise. These are the main flavors of the profile. I'll gladly help you along, I just can't give specific details.
Just read back the bit where it was said the real recipe was leaked. By the information provided I could only find Solube Arom Red Grape and I think they are too new to be the one. There other is Reka. That's Malaysian. They are old enough, but I think T-Juice would use UK sources. So unless the guy who said he has the real recipe wants to share at least there manufacturer with us, then the speculation will have to continue.
Red Fruits & Mint is hard to get as chefs doesn't even have it. I'm going to riff on this a bit (never had the original) but know the profile by playing with a few different subs.
Decadent Vapor Absinthe 3% - INW Grape Mint .75% - FA Anise 1%
Then I'm thinking the standard .75% FA Blackcurrant - FA Forest Fruit 3% - .30% INW Raspberry Malina. Possibly .25% Bilberry to brighten everything up but I'm already pushing it with a mish-mash of fruits as I don't know how the next flavor will play out....
To bridge the fruits and the mint, which I wanted to use my go to with the king of mints in INW Natural Mint but instead use the signature profile of Red Astaire by using Clear Storm (Flavor Junkie) from Chefs at 1% - A berry undertone with a kick of Eucalyptus coolness and a hint of anise.
Then a nice little trick when dealing with any anise/absinethe/licorice is a little bit of TPA Horehound to give it a unquie lemon'ish anise floral punch at .25%.
Next time chefs have a 25% deal I'll get the actual juice to see what the hype is about as it's a cheap flat rate for US based people.
Heisenberg is mainly INW Red Fruits & Mint (@11%, 1000% sure), you can't change that profile to Red Astaire with just some cap blackcurrant. Just think about that RA ester anyone can detect on tpa blackberry, same on Clara T (without the redish imagery). I tend to forget 'real' names, because this is not even natural oils, is just a bunch of compounds filling a profile that resembles the real thing. That's why you can taste licorice where is no licorice flavor, or some other fruits on a grape flavor.
Yeah, it's all posted in reddit. I never had it before, however I'm familiar with the profile. Ironcially enough though, yesterday I just got a 30ml for the first time and haven't cracked it open yet. I got that, Heisenberg which I mixed at 12% and I'll let that settle for a bit because I'm not too sure about that one yet.
Plus I got Chefs Green With Envy & I guess a popular one shot in: Nice Blast from Epic Shots.
It's my first time ever doing one shots, and basically all are pretty much the wildly popular EU profile of berries, anise/licorice, with a coolant. I needed to not only check out maybe the top 2 juices pound for pound in the world, but to help develop and understand the profile a bit more. I think a lot of them got pigeon holed by using mostly INW flavors way back then which makes since being in part of that world, however there are so many new companies and flavors out there that I can tweak it a bit. Stuff like INW Blackcurrant or Super Concentrates (Flavors Express) Blackberry which is the only decent one known to man.
I can tell that Chefs is ahead of the game because they are using ws-23 where the other is Koolada and I think Astaire is INW E&M.
BTW: If you go into these forums and look up people trying to clone it somebody took (forget the name) but a $100,000 machine that breaks down chemical compounds for Heisenberg and it was crazy of what it came up with, just like how you were saying that there wasn't a anise/licorice but there wasn't any traces of it. I can pull a link up if you can't fint it.
Seems to me with the berries and the grape he mentions it's 100% https://chefsflavours.co.uk/crystal-blue-dv/ with other most likely INW flavors. People like Kopel and the like have said years ago that is what they've been told what's in it and of course has always been the rumor, not that I follow all of it considering today is the first day that I've had it :-)
12% of fresh Heisenberg in a squonk with a wasp nano framed staple coil at 1.8 ohms kicked me in my ass. I think it's menthol rather than koolada too which gives it another minty aspect and if INW E&M is in there it's .10% or less because that flavor is so distinct. I can taste the horrible INW blackcurrant or berries though that's not that common, but I'm kind of digging it though and I re-mixed it lower and increased the VG and in a few days I'm sure it'll settle down.
I'm totally going to play around with it by throwing in DV Absinthe, WS-23, and I think it could use something to tone down the berries using either a good Grape like SC/FE or INW Purple Blush or HS Blueberry.
Hi chewy,
I absolutely love red astaire, definitely my favourite vape of all time, although iv never been able to come close with a recipe and kept giving up.. Have you changed anything at all recently or are all the percentages here giving quite a close flavour profile? I shall be purchasing the concs for this in the morning.
Cheers for sharing bud
