InsigmaTheory ,Thank you! I mixed this exactly per your recipe and it is Great.I don't know what the original is like but this tastes exactly like "A fluffy fresh fried beignet with powdered sugar" to me! Thank you for sharing!
Like Chovette, I have never tried the original juice this is a clone of, but I really dig this flavor. I was kind of hesitant with the Joy being at 2%, but it really does meld well. Definitely will be make more of this.
I keep coming back to this recipe, it's so so good. Simple and light but such a great ADV. I've been using it as a launching point for an almond crioissant recipe. Just experimenting with FA's Almond & Marzipan (adding 1.5% almond, 1% marzipan on my current iteration). Kudos man, thanks for the recipe - this is one of my favorites.
Just had to stop in and say thanks for this recipe. I was a little nervous never having used Joy this high before, but it's delicious! Sweet, subtle, but satisfying as hell. Love it!
Thank you for this. This came out really good. Very subtle. I also have never tried Joy that high.... I thought I would have that bottle for years. Now I'm going to need to buy more.
Mixed this up a month ago and just dripping some now. Easily the best use of Joy I've tried as I'm not a fan of it yet here it is higher than I've ever uses it and it's great. Thanks!
Wow, I finally have a use for the bottle of Joy that's been sitting around. Tastes exactly like a fried dough with powdered sugar, fortunately, without the calories.
Not sure how it would compare to the original as I have not tried it, but this is really good. I tried it a day after mixing, might be fine as a shake and vape also.
Mixed with Cap v2 sugar cookie, normal ratios, this is really tasty. Glad I decided to make this I can see this becoming adv, it's sweet but not over powering, Nice balance in fried dough and powdered sugar flavor. That amount of joy was almost worrisome, but it's just great. Thanks.
Well, I tried it tonight after making it on the 21st and it's great. I have never tried the real juice just was attracted to the flavors and profile. Thanks for sharing a nice recipe!
Oh, Amy, I didn't see any notes on if it was like a steep or not, so I just tried it like 4 hours out..I am sure few days steep will make it little more blend.
@dirty talking grimace mine steeped for around 4 days & it is fabulous ! I too was nervous using Joy FA @ high %s Bc I tend to get a beer taste out of it , nope not this time sweet bread with some sugar beignets baby !
I'm glad so many people are enjoying it. CAP Sugar Cookie is pretty much the entire basis of this and its a flavor that has taken over a lot of my mixing. Overall its just a fantastic flavor that not only works well with a ton of other stuff, but it provides a great base.
I've been thinking about this recently, if I were to revisit this I'd probably omit Biscuit entirely. While its still good, the buttery heavyness isn't anything like the original.
The reason Joy works at such a high ratio is actually the Sugar Cookie + Meringue mix canceling out a lot of the yeasty heart notes from Joy.
I agree Insigma Theory Joy gets smothered with the creaminess of the meringue and drowns out the unwanted yeast of the flavor. Sometimes you want that breadiness but at a tasteful level. Here Joy is actually tucked pleasantly away allowing sugar cookie to do its thing..sweeten ! I only have the v2 of Cap's but it worked just fine @4%. Thanks again.
I took your advice and removed the Biscuit... I actually like it even better wish I could rate it all over again LOL really it allows much more sweetness to come through !
Mixed this up 8 weeks ago, since then a few things have changed. Been dual fueling for almost a year, in last 3 weeks have given up the analogue's. My taste buds are coming back, and sometimes you just wanna break from custards, milky strawberries and fruity concoctions.
This suits me fine with glass of wine in the evening or first thing in the morning with cup of coffee.
Nice subtle vape and sweet. I'm in for this one.
Well done and thanks for sharing.
I for one am relieved so many people hate Joy. I thought I was the only one. That doesn't mean I won't keep trying, but my hopes were diminishing. Mixed this tonight, smells great right away. But I'll be patient, despite my inclinations. Thanks!
Fantastic recipe! I, like others, was a bit worried about using Joy at 2% but after a three day steep the flavor magically changes into something really great!
Well
I am going to say after 18 days of steep first was inot magnetic mixer for about 3 minutes this came out very nice I like it
Mixed as is and haven't changed a thing
Thanks much
This has, easily, become one of my favorite recipes. There are times that I'll substitute and use Cinnamon Sugar Cookie (FA) or I'll do half Sugar cookie and half Cinnamon Sugar cookie, but the recipe itself is great. I usually make batches of 120ml at a time, because I go through it so quickly. Thank you! * I have also rarely let it seep, instead treating it like a shake and vape. I'm too impatient and it is still great*
InsigmaTheory, I made this recipe a month or so ago and while it had a very authentic fried dough taste, it didn't seem very sweet. I was wondering-- did you use the original, lighter version of FA Meringue when you created the recipe? I only have the new version, unfortunately.
I made this 10 days ago and couldn't wait any longer. With first tank, I get the powder suger sweetness and feel also taste the cinnamon. However, I don't taste any dough. Would increasing biscuit help that or increase the joy?
Very sad that I kept having a go at my 10ml during the steeping, got to 3 weeks and the presidential election and there were 2.5 ml left and it's turned into a frikin sugarred fried beignette of unicorn fart glory and I frikin smoked the lot before it even got to Hillary's tears. Makin 100ml today, mega hats off to u sir and thanks for sharing.
This is really good! I just made a small 15ml up. In reading all the comments I took out the Biscuit and had to use TPA Meringue instead of FA. I have to say so far these flavors are playing really well together. Much thanks for a nice 5✮ vape!
Just mixed up 100ml. Had to sub Sugar cookie for v2 (all I have) and made it max vg so upped the sugar cookie 2% for both reasons. Straight away it tastes good. It does need to settle though but I can already tell it's a keeper. I "can" taste the yeast of the joy but it's in a good way..the way it's supposed to be used imo.
I took out the Biscuit and added 3% FA Italian Lemon Sicily and 1% CAP Juicy Lemon (a good bakery lemon ratio that can be scaled up 3:1), mmm this is one of the best S&V Bakeries I've had! Wonder what adding .5% Acetyl Pyrazine would do to the already tasty Joy dough.
Everybody loves this :)
I'm sure everyone is trying it out with their favorite fruit (I'm thinking "jelly filling"
But FWIW if anyone's interested, my current favorite, not quite a recipe, is filling a tank ~50%-75% geography, and topping it up with goldfish's apple buttah FTdubs!
What percentages would you recommend for a max vg mix? After reading some comments I would really like to make this but at higher percentages. Not a lot of max vg recipes to find here! Thanks!
this is amazing the more i vape it the more i like it! @VapingRanger i mix it at 25/75 and i find it has lots of flavor i might even go 20/80 next batch i bet you could mix max vg and have a great vape too but maybe up the biscuit and joy .25% each to compensate they seem to be the main notes i hope you like it as much as i do. @samnob thanks for the tip now i have a reason to make more apple buttah lol : )
5 stars. Been through 4 batches totaling 100ml in the last month. I sometimes sub FA zeppola for Biscuit. Joy + Meringue work surprisingly well high levels, best frosted sugar taste I've had.
I find that after 8 days steep this mix is excellent. I've been vaping it pretty consistently for the last year and for me it's my go-to morning vape. It has a fabulous doughy, yeasty flavour which is a nice change from the usual sweet and fruit flavour mixes out there. Good job, Insigma.
In response to #39 (3DD3) - Try a few drops (just a few! like 2-4 drops per 30mL) of INA Cactus concentrate. Again, just a few drops! It is strong stuff, and you want the wetness it provides, without any change to the flavor. It always does the trick for me, when I want a "wetter" vape. Works really well with biscuit-y vapes and Fiji apple vapes as well. Bull City Vapors carries the Cactus concentrate (No affiliation to them, just saying one possibility, since the cactus "concentrate / koncentrate" is a difficult-to-find flavor) and I think they still have the discount code ELRECIPES going. Again, just trying to help, nothing in it for me. Best of luck and let me know how you make out with it, if you decide to try it!
@3DD3 see above
My Review of this - as a SNV, not bad, but a tad yeasty (perhaps from the joy, but it isn't the typical joy "yeastiness". And by SNV, I mean mix and less than 5 minutes, I'm vapin' it. What can I say, I'm an impatient little fool. Steeped a different bottle for 22 days, and it's a ton better (I know, "well duh") with a subtle sweetness that certainly doesn't overpower. Vaped on a TFV8 with clamp/ "goon" (sorta) style V8-RBA-16 adapter= dual homemade aliens (26ga x3 wrapped with 31ga) that come in right at 0.10 ohms when together, vaping at 86.5 watts on my trusty ol' RX2 using 3x freshly charged 18650s. 5 stars given, thanks for this recipe!
Just mixed this up but added acetyl Pyrazine 0.5% . As a S& V it's lovely. Really like it. Thank you so much for your tireless work. Might add Lemon Sicily and juicy lemon next. Respect.
How much does the yeast flavor dissipate after a steep? Tried it 3 days out and it's a little too much for me to be able to enjoy. Might try another batch with 1% for use as a SNV, but I do really like the background flavors going on, it just seems overpowered by the yeast at this point.
It's been about 4 weeks and the Joy flavor is still super strong. I even made extra without the Joy so that I could cut the main batch down to 0.5% and I'd still say it's too high for me. I'd probably not go higher than 0.1-0.25% myself next time if I even add it at all. Apparently some people are just more susceptible to certain flavors.
Just mixed this and had a toot right away. It's very good per the recipe I think. I am surprised the biscuit came through so strong at only .75%. Is this normal? I don't have alot of experience mixing but this is a great recipe! Thanks for sharing!!!
Sorry to be the one to say this isn't great for me. But that's kinda bound to happen since I live in New Orleans and have made beignets for my niece.... Granted, I haven't had the original, so I can't comment on the clone aspect. I really wanted to like it! But, it's definitely not beignets - after 2, 3, then 6 week aging time.
I vape Joy as SF so that's not it. Specifically, my beef is with this sugar cookie; in my mind, it's almost all SC. Since starting mixing, I quickly became nauseous by the dreaded combination: Sugar Cookie + Vanilla Custard v1!!
It IS sweet and light. As a donut, I like this better, since I don't have CAP doughnut and find TPA frosted more of a spice cake. I may try vaping with coffee.
I plan to keep trying, though, and think I'll start by eliminating the biscuit as stated and adding one drop SC at a time. I also think I'll add 0.5% AP (which I also vape alone) and love.
Had a four ounce bottle of Joy for at least a couple years with barely a dent in it. Finally got around to mixing this up today after contemplating and procrastinating like forever. Glad I mixed it, definitely has that New Orleans french fried pastry flavor and much to my surprise is an excellent snv; well done!
2 weeks later: while the Joy has mellowed out significantly, its still too much for me. I bet 1% would be perfect for those who don't typically enjoy that heavy beer flavor. It sure is unique, I know some people who would ADV this...but hey, if it means I get to utilize my neglected Joy then I'm satisfied lol.
This recipe is awesome! One of my favourites, had to use sugar cookie V2 because I had no V1. Never tasted original but it’s amazing fried dough with powdered sugar! 5 stars and many thanks
Such a great recipe! Thanks so much for sharing! I let it steep for 2 weeks and have found it to easily be enjoyed throughout the day! I literally just started mixing and this was a no-brainer for a newb. 5 Stars!
