Three week steep no matter what you do with it! This is a true EGGY custard be prepared for that! The flavors take TIME to come out. I almost abandoned this recipe after a week (that was after a 1 1/2 hour ultrasonic steep too I might add). Left it alone and decided to try it last night? DELICIOUS so yeah some things take time!!!!
Only three weeks and it is good to go. I like! I only hope I can save some for another week or two to see if it is better or if it is good at three weeks. So far I really like your custards
Michelle, I will be making this as soon as I have a bottle free. I have to leave out the condensed milk but I don't think it will change the flavor much. You really sold me on this mix when you said it is an "eggy" custard. I will let you know how it turns out and ty for your time and mixing knowledge in making this and your other recipes.
authormichellehughes i recently added creme brule to my stash, i whipped up about four mls. I like it, so i added some, so i thought, to a juice i was working on. Turns out i added it to this english custard. WOW, it's great, it works. I hope you will give it a try
authormichellehughes this juice was everything you said it would be. It is the best custard I have had yet. I don't like the thin almost flavorless vanilla custards and this recipe gave me exactly the flavor profile I wanted. Thank you so much for the time you have out into this and your other recipes. I will be making a larger batch so I can keep this in my daily rotation.
Had to sub a few flavours as I don't have everything in the recipe, so I can't give a review on the exact recipe, but what I have is superb and fits your description perfectly. A wonderful full bodied custard. Other custard recipes often produce a thinner sort of flavour; this one hits the spot and is reminiscent and as satisfying as a hot bowl of custard on a cold winter's evening.
I will experiment with using this is a base mix for other recipes - making an apple or rhubarb crumble with this would be fantastic.
Flavours subbed as follows:
Butterscotch FW swapped for TPA
Graham Cracker TPA swapped for FW
Milk Condensed FA not used, Malted Milk TPA upped to 1%
Custard FA not used, CAP VC v1 used at 7%
Thanks so much, Yacbos. I enjoy making new recipes, so if there's anything you're searching for let me know, I'll see if I can put something up that you'll enjoy.
