Hi Alisa. What's your steep time/method for this recipe? Looks great btw. I've adapted a few of your recipes to my own tastes and I'm a fan of your work. Thanks in advance for your response and keep up the good work.
Thanks so much, @crazola . I steep all custards at least 2 weeks, and a month if I can stand to be that patient. Just gets richer with age. I just mix all my recipes with a milk frother/ small paint mixer, then label and put in my steeping cabinet to rest.
I made some up last night with an hour water bath and breathed for a mother hour hour and it tasted outstanding then. I'll try it again in a week to let you know @Alisa
Hmmmm, not paying attention. Used butter cream by cap and French vanilla by cap because no tpa. Love version 1 so much got excited seeing a v2. Will see how it turns out with the subs
Have ya played around with flavorahs? Just tasted my 1st batches i made 2 weeks ago and DAMN! Are they great. Ive always enjoyed caps v1 but this is a "hole notha leva" key and peele reference
It's been a mite difficult letting this sit in the dark cubby for a couple weeks. But yum, it was totally worth it.
I've got it on a 0.35 ohm dual nichrome build at 75W, and it's smooth and tasty. I know I shouldn't, but I'm about to slap that build on my noisy cricket, see what happens. Ooh! That is even tastier! If only the wicks could keep up...
This little test bottle won't last the steeping time of the large bottle I'm about to make.
@chyde777 I don't have the CAP version to compare, but if I did, I would definitely try a small batch!
@Apathy - yes, it is. Not overly sweet, but definitely sweet.
Thanks for the recipe, I made two 30 ml bottles last night. I'm new to the forum and have made the mistake of saving my 30ml weights of your recipe to the main page. Sorry about this.
@robin - Well, I've found that the vanilla swirl is a different vanilla flavoring. You might try subbing with French Vanilla Creme (TFA) if you have it, or just leave it out.
I didn't have Golden Butter when I mixed this, so I subbed Cap Butter Cream @1%. After 6 weeks of steeping this mix incredible. Better than any commercial custard I've ever tried. I've got version III steeping, can hardly wait to try it after it's properly steeped. Thanks so much for sharing @Alisa, this is truly a fantastic creation.
CAP Butter Cream is good stuff too. So glad you like it, @DougC !
@Mezo - I'm not sure about the TFA Butter at all. If you try it, please let us know how it works out!
@alextiko - yes, you can. Although the TFA version is not quite as sweet and doesn't have that 'fluffiness' to it or 'mouth feel' that a lot of us perceive. So, if you can get some FA in the future, you will be happier with it.
I just started mixing two weeks ago. I found out that I LOVE custards by testing CAP's V1. I have been on a custard kick. I will be mixing this for sure. I see a lot of good comments on every one of your recipes. I have a lot of confidence in making one of your recipe
I've been mixing other's recipes for a year. I'm new to making my own recipes sorta. I want to start with a custard. I was curious why you used marshmallow, and why FA? Just trying to learn the process. Is it to sweeten the mix or give it mouth feel?
@cincinnatiking - I wanted more of the marshmallow 'feel' and creaminess from the FA brand of marshmallow. I use TFA brand a lot to get a very much sweeter juice in other recipes.
@Alisa: After a quick test, I went all in and mixed 100ml, can't wait to see how it turns out, then I saw there is a version III. In your opinion should I be going straight on to version 3?
This is by far the best vanilla custard I've mixed in a little over a year of DIY, just finishing off my latest 250 ml batch. Everything is very nicely balanced in this recipe, and I find the vanilla flavor comes through a little better than some of the other ones I've tried. There isn't a ton of sweetness in this mix (for my tastebuds anyway) and if I'm vaping it on its own I sometimes find myself wanting it a little bit sweeter; however, I'm usually vaping it with a fairly sweet coffee in hand and the two compliment one another perfectly. I've thought about adding a little ethyl maltol but I haven't played around with this recipe at all yet, I like it too much the way it is. Thank you for sharing this, I thoroughly enjoy it and will definitely be mixing up a lot more. I'm very curious to try the v3, haven't done it yet because I'm missing the Hangsen Italian Cream flavour but I think I'll just try a sub and give it a go!
@termitesHOLLOW - I'm so glad you are enjoying this one. Thanks for taking the time to come comment and rate. Let us know what you think of the v3. Next time you mix, substitute TFA Marshmallow in place of the FA Marshmallow, and you'll find it a bit sweeter. :)
