This is spot on. Even without a moment of steeping!
#2 by EWS, Dec 10. 2014, 23:06
12-10-2014 Been vaping this a lot in last 6 weeks - It is really super! Goes into my permanent recipe stash and is currently my favorite All Day Vape!
#3 by Submoa, Mar 15. 2015, 22:21
Day 3: Strong Kentucky Bourbon and Oak wood taste. I can't taste other flavours. And It's less sweet than the original. And the original is smoother.

But the profil is spot on. I will wait one week and maybe lower Kentucky bourbon and oak wood and add sweetener.

Maybe we can add koolada to make it smoother?
#4 by EWS, Mar 15. 2015, 22:38
@submoa
koolada won't make it smoother! if You want it smoother either let it steep a while or add 1% TFA Smooth or FA Vape Wizzard!
I think it's sweet enough but You could add .5% to the brown sugar!
Also I guess You could decrease th Ky Bourbon and Oakwood by .5%
#5 by Submoa, Mar 18. 2015, 22:49
After 6 days it's spot smoother and other flavors came out. Everything it needed was a steeping. It will be probably better in one week.

This recipe is spot on. I'm very happy to found the clone of my favorite juice. Thank you @EWS !

Now I have to find the best Grandmaster clone :)
#6 by Submoa, Mar 20. 2015, 15:07
Just want to say how this juice taste is amazing! I'm going to make a 500 ML batch today.
#7 by Dio, Mar 26. 2015, 20:09
Man!
I dont know the real castle long juice but yours is AWSOME !!!
Even after 4 hours hot bath is so tasty ....
thanks alot EWS! MANY STARSSS
#8 by ADV_Hunter, Apr 9. 2015, 06:39
After 24 hours this is pretty good. I love it, but can't adv. I'm eager to see the changes after a week. Thanks EWS!
#9 by ADV_Hunter, Apr 12. 2015, 02:10
I was eager to vape this, so I speed steeped in the heated ultrasonic cleaner. Very very nice vape. I'll be making a big bottle of this.

If you try his and don't like it, put it on the selve and come back and try it from time to time. It is a different type of flavor which might take a fruity vaper time appreciate.
#10 by ADV_Hunter, Apr 12. 2015, 02:55
I hope this is ok to post, remove if it is not. I wouldn't post this, except this is a truly killer combo.

I meant to also say I have a kiwi lime vape that I dual vape with this. The sweetness of this recipe and the tart of the kiwi lime compliment each other. Here is the link if you are interested.

#11 by EWS, Apr 17. 2015, 17:55
Frank - Sure it's OK to post whatever! Glad You like my Castle Long V2 and I think I'll try your kiwi lime!
#12 by kompressaur, May 3. 2015, 01:27
I initially made this up when i had no Vanillin and for some reason thought 'lets use some SMOOTH instead' (same percentage). The brother inlaw wont touch my vanillin batches ie this recipe but seems to rate my smoothed version better. Just incase anyone fances a wee tweak to it. Suppose the smoothed version is more rounded than this but i think i prefer the complexities of this one. Thanks again EWS.
#13 by kompressaur, May 3. 2015, 01:28
tell a lie im using 4 drops of smooth per 10ml
#14 by ADV_Hunter, May 3. 2015, 01:35
I made up a few bottles of this so I could allow a bottle to steep a while. I gave all bottles a bath in Us Heated cleaner after being made. At one week, the toasted coconut is supreme. At 3 weeks, it is a so very smooth vape, but the coconut was barely or undetectable. I've made 4 more bottles dropping kb, and increasing coconut a little. I'll report back in a few weeks
#15 by ADV_Hunter, May 3. 2015, 03:38
I'm going to have to revise my last post. This is my favorite adv and i do get vapors tongue from vaping to much of it. I had 3 new mixes to test out, so I didn't vape this for several days. I started vaping this a few hours ago and I can still taste the toasted coconut, thou it is well blended in. For my personal taste, I'm going to drop the Kentucky bourbon down a little. Have I mentioned this is a killer vape! Just let it steep a few weeks to get it really super smooth. I'm not sure I've ever vapes anything this smooth.
#16 by gistro kono bar, May 4. 2015, 14:12
I have almost tried them all but this version of Castle Long is my favourite
#17 by synapses11, May 20. 2015, 00:30
I have an order of flavors on the way to make this recipe. I already have AE %5 at home. That stuff is awfully strong. Is definitely 2% of (AE %5) for this recipe?
#18 by EWS, May 20. 2015, 01:08
Yes - 2% AP not AE (5% Acetyl Pyrazine)
#19 by synapses11, May 20. 2015, 01:09
Whoops lol. My bad just a brain fart. Thank you.
#20 by synapses11, May 24. 2015, 20:13
Never had the real thing , but just tried this recipe out after 3 days of steeping, it's pretty good. Not sure how this compares but definitely a nice change from all the fruity vapes I make
#21 by rane, May 28. 2015, 19:01
Very nice one, but it's just not to the real thing. Well it's only been 1 day old so I'll give it some steeping time, but it's a little to much bourbon (from both) and the TPA coconut not even close to the real thing Five Pawns uses (which I have by my side).

Castle Long has that sunscreen smell of the coconut flavor (the leading flavor) which some hate, but I LIKE and didn't find the right one yet. That is the missing link in that great recipe (Thanks EWS).
#22 by EWS, May 28. 2015, 21:00
Thanks for the review rane! I encourage you to play around with different coconuts and report back on your findings!
#23 by rane, May 28. 2015, 22:56
I have just placed an order for 6 coconuts flavour from different manufactures, will come back with an answer. Cheers.
#24 by EWS, Jun 7. 2015, 00:11
Made another 100ml 6-6-15!
#25 by farenheit, Jul 1. 2015, 21:53
I know this might sound like a daft question, but is there an alternative i can use to replace the kentucky bourbon? Dont drink and dont care for the flavour. Thanks :)
#26 by TheLostSurveyor, Jul 17. 2015, 18:24
This doesn't taste like the original. It's better. I'm sitting on my patio vaping both side by side. The clone FAR surpasses the original. IMHO Of course I'm a fan of BIG flavor. This recipe flavor profile is the same. But the flavors are bigger and better. I can't seem to put it down. My wife who doesn't vape but likes to smell my various concoctions. Said "it smells richer than the original." Thanks for sharing this!
#27 by ADV_Hunter, Jul 23. 2015, 04:58
I ordered a bottle of the original when I ordered the triton tank. The original has a taste not included with this recipe. I'm still wondering what it is, just to make sure I don't use it.
#28 by Neskweek, Jul 24. 2015, 17:07
I Tried it side by side with the original right after making a 10ml batch and shaking the bottle:

- The original as a much mutted flavor (this one might need less aroma)
- The original juice have a darker color
- This one have a bit too much kentucky
- This one have a bit too much nutty taste (too much almond?)
- This one might need some bitter wizard
- This one miss the vanilla ice cream kind of taste (not enough vanilla taste?)
- I think the missing taste is gingerbread (clove+ginger+cinnamon) I added 4 drops of that but it might not be enough
- To smooth it, it needs some MTS Vape Wizard (FA). Tested and approuved

I diluted this batch by 2 and it taste is still strong wich is a good news :) less ml = cheaper juice

Still, this recipe as noted above is really really great !
Well done !
#29 by Neskweek, Jul 24. 2015, 17:33
diluted by 4 : looks like the strength of the original but still way too much kentucky bourbon
#30 by Neskweek, Aug 5. 2015, 19:10
I've mixed it by mistake with a batch of 5% Black Honey tobacco and 5% SC- Old Captain Super concentrated and it rocks.
Which makes me say the original recipe have some liccorice in it
#31 by EWS, Aug 6. 2015, 01:57
@Neskweek - Appreciate all your comments! Obviously You don't like the taste of Kentucky Bourbon as much as I do! Would love to see You post a finished recipe of this that You like! I've got a lot of tobacco recipes that I like and mix but have never tried any tobacco in Castle Long!
#32 by Oleskool, Aug 25. 2015, 05:28
Hello. I purchased a bottle of AP from a local store. When I looked at this recipe again I notice it said 5%. Does that mean I need to dilute my AP, also the vanillin?
#33 by EWS, Aug 25. 2015, 14:16
@ Oleskool - No just use 2% of Your 5% AP
#34 by Oleskool, Aug 25. 2015, 19:06
I think need to clarify my question. My bottle just says Acetyl Pyrazine. It does not say 5% it is tpa, my vanillin does not say 10%, it just says vanillin. You recipe calls for AP 5%, Vanillin 10%.
#35 by rane, Aug 25. 2015, 19:27
The AP for TPA comes as a 5% so no need to make any changes here. As for the Vanillin, it depends which one you took from TPA. If it's the Vanillin 10, it's fine, if it's the crystals you need to dilute to 10% with PG and use that mix for the recipe.
#36 by Oleskool, Aug 25. 2015, 20:37
Ok thanks. I don't have crystals so maybe it is the correct one. It is tpa but just says vanillin. I live about 20min from a shop that has most flavors. I am going to get some more I don't know maybe there or online.http://www.diyvaporsupply.com/?fullSite=1 This is where I got the flavors
#37 by TheLostSurveyor, Aug 25. 2015, 21:07
On my latest batch I lowered the flavor percentage to 18% by direct ratio. This is actually much closer to the original and still just as tasty. IMHO of course. Give it a shot!
#38 by asbanoglou, Sep 14. 2015, 15:11
I would like to ask if i dont have the Oak Wood Flavor from FA can i add red oak from TPA instead? It's the same?
#39 by EWS, Sep 14. 2015, 18:07
@ asbanoglou
It is very close and I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference!
#40 by asbanoglou, Sep 14. 2015, 18:18
@EWS thanks for the reply i will check it asap :D
#41 by ctvapor, Sep 15. 2015, 20:06
I just got into mixing my own fluids and CLR is one of my favorite flavors. My wallet just can't sustain the quantity I like to ADV of the stuff. I made this recipie and something smelled very strong to me about it. Let it steep for a week and the flavors have come together nicely.

I went to vape it and I have to agree with #28 posting about it being a bit to nutty. There's something not quite right in there. I'm going to have to do a sniff test of the mixed fluid against the original flavors to see if I can isolate it. Maybe reduce the AP5% and the Toasted Almond a bit? I also could find the Oak Wook and had to sub the Red Oak so maybe that requires a bit less % in there.

I also noted that the Bourbon flavor was way too strong when i first made it but after a week of steeping that part of the flavor has settled in very nicely.
#42 by Special K, Oct 2. 2015, 02:57
After a week of steeping, this stuff slaps you in the face with deliciousness. Mighty fine recipe.
#43 by Crashzalee, Oct 4. 2015, 13:53
I don't have bourbon (vanilla bourbon) FA, is there direct replacement from TFA ? Thanks :)
#44 by Maureeenie, Oct 10. 2015, 17:49
Just looking at this recipe and based on comments I would first try cutting that Kentucky to about 2% but this looks magnificent!
#45 by shuggarush, Oct 14. 2015, 10:00
This recipe is worthy of 10 stars.
#46 by atssec97, Oct 15. 2015, 00:33
Well, not sure if my opinion matters but...... This mix is EXCELLENT!!!
I mixed it up as EWS has it listed and let it steep for 10 days! I was tempted many times to try it before the 10 days was up as I shook it daily and had several wifts as it progressed, glad I waited!! Sadly only made an initial 10 ml sample to begin with. The second batch of 50 ml is now steeping!!! Will have several 50 ml bottles in rotation of this very fine vape!! Thanks for the great mix and appreciate your generously sharing here!!
#47 by EWS, Oct 29. 2015, 00:59
Thanks so much for the compliments!!!!! - EWS
#48 by Beerfix, Nov 10. 2015, 05:24
I jumped right in and made a 100ml batch, and I have to say, this is very very close to the original. Castle long is one of my favorite vapes, and I recently found out that they are no longer making it, and will eventually re-formulate the recipe. Thanks for creating this, it may be the best clone I've ever tried.
#49 by rane, Nov 18. 2015, 12:26
They stopped making it since it has a huge amount of diacetyl and there is a million dollars lawsuit over their had.
#50 by Jed, Nov 24. 2015, 10:10
Brilliant!! Vaped a 10ml test batch (with TPA Vanilla Bourbon and TPA Red Oak) before it had chance to steep...oops. So brewed up a 30ml bottle with 5% KB and 3% Brown Sugar and gave it 4 hours in a crockpot and a three day rest before trying it. Wow this is flippin good. It seems a little drier and lacking the mouth feel of the original so I might add a smidge of EM or MTS in the next batch or just steep it for longer. Thank you EWS I'll be making a lot of this.
#51 by Tamer El-Meehy, Dec 15. 2015, 00:49
I'm about to give this a try and I wanted to ask a couple of questions:
1. Is it possible to use TFA's Vanilla Bourbon instead of FA's? if so, what percentage should I use?
2. If I use TPA's Red Oak instead of that made by FA, what percentage should I use?
3. My previous experience with Coconut Extra has been dismal ..it tasted like coconut shampoo. Is 3% too much? or does the KB overpower it?
#52 by Jed, Dec 15. 2015, 09:36
I used 2% TPA Vanilla Bourbon & 1.8% TPA Red Oak. I'm not that impressed with Coconut Extra either but it seems to work in this mix. I might see what it's like with FA Coconut in my next batch.
#53 by Tamer El-Meehy, Dec 19. 2015, 02:05
Jumped right in and made a 100 ml batch ..put it in the UC for 4 hours and now letting it breathe. Will report back in a day or two.
#54 by Tamer El-Meehy, Dec 19. 2015, 12:02
I haven't tried the other clones, but this is very close to the original. Definitely a good replacement! I might consider adding a few drops of MTS Vape Wizard just to seek perfection...but it's great and definitely an ADV as it is.
#55 by Tamer El-Meehy, Dec 19. 2015, 12:03
forgot to add that I tried it with 65% PG
#56 by bv, Dec 20. 2015, 12:09
Over the course of a year, I've tried 7 different recipes for CL and this one is definitely the most delicious - it's not an exact replica of the 5P juice but very, very close. Not just my opinion but also that of three friends - one of whom vapes nothing but this! - and I now make 150ml every month for us all. So a huge heartfelt thanks to EWS for adding this adaptation to the collection! (To everyone else: (1) it's my opinion that this juice reaches it's peak after 4 weeks steeping and not a single day less - leave it that long and it won't need any MTS; (2) EWS has several other great recipes, check them out: e-liquid-recipes.com/list?filter=9179
#57 by EWS, Dec 20. 2015, 14:46
@bv - Thanks so much for your comments!
#58 by Beirut, Dec 22. 2015, 00:40
Thank you for bringing me joy into my life EWS. This is the most delicious recipe I've ever tried. I'm making it 150ml every 14 days and can't even steep it properly because I can't resist it. Im also using this recipe as a template for creating my other test mixes. Like replacing Bourbon with Brandy or Rum.
#59 by rufus5824, Jan 6. 2016, 20:20
Unbelievable. I haven't tried the real Castle Long but this is hands down the best tasting and most complex juice I've had, let alone made. I subbed FA Coconut for the Coconut Extra TPA (I do all diketone free flavorings) and I lowered the toasted almond to 2% as I've had bad experiences with it in the past.

I do 65vg/35pg and 3mg. On a side note I originally skipped the coconut altogether as it didn't sound appealing to me. After trying it coconut free after a 2 week steep it was obviously missing something so I added the coconut... it tied it all together, exactly what it needed. I let it steep for another 2 weeks with the coconut (so 1 month steep overall including a hot water bath and 3 days of breathing to start the steep). Delicious, better than anything I've ever bought retail. 5 starred - Kudos!
#60 by BpalfZ, Jan 17. 2016, 23:22
I have everything but oak wood would I be doomed if u left it out?
#61 by EWS, Jan 17. 2016, 23:58
@BpalfZ - TPA Red Oak will work as a substitute
#62 by BpalfZ, Jan 18. 2016, 00:00
What if I don't use either though?
#63 by Tamer El-Meehy, Jan 18. 2016, 11:52
IMO you can, but it will not be castle long "reserve". It will be castle long though..or V.1. still an excellent juice
#64 by Dave Camz, Feb 10. 2016, 12:03
I vaped on the original the other day and loved it, for me it would be a now & then vape, is it still as it was EWS or have you made any changes to it, cheers...
#65 by EWS, Feb 10. 2016, 14:11
No - I haven't changed anything! Just keep remaking it 100ml at a time!
#66 by Dave Camz, Feb 10. 2016, 17:25
EWS with the oak wood & red oak u say may work, my supplier don't stock either of them, I take it its a type of tobacco flavour. could that be subbed for any other flavour, im not gonna say will it make a huge difference leaving it out as there in there for a reason lol. good work also as looking at the reviews you seemed to have got something very close.
#67 by Submoa, Mar 12. 2016, 08:53
You don't have to modify anything in this recipe. I tried and it was not better. It's just perfect as it is. Just do it and let it steep for at least one week.
#68 by troms321, Mar 14. 2016, 21:50
Wow! Amazing recipe. After a hot water bath it tastes spot on to Castle Long. Going to have to make a big batch to steep cuz this 30mls isn't going to last long.
#69 by sllo, Mar 29. 2016, 15:27
is the almond too much in the recipe or is this how it is supposed to taste? or does it need more steep time
#70 by CuriousVaper, Apr 1. 2016, 05:27
I just tried this recipe exactly as it is... However dissappointed... It tastes very crude... I dont know I could just taste coconut and almost... also it tastes like something is burning, I checked my cotton in the tnk , it was good. No sweet at all... I dont what wrong I am doing here... should I let it steep ??? EWS ... Please advice !!!!
#71 by Dave Camz, Apr 1. 2016, 11:44
how long have you let it steep for curiousvaper
#72 by CuriousVaper, Apr 1. 2016, 16:02
@Dave Camz, I just gave a puff right after making the juice... I am just gonna steep it for a week, and see how it turns.

My concern is though that , right after making the flavours would be disorganized or disproportionate... However this is very crude and bitter. All ordered all the flavours just like EMS said... TPA and FA. I am really hoping this to turn out well... Absence of sweetness concerns me a lot.

I see in comments that many were succesful with this.... Guys need yur advise. Thanks !!!
#73 by Dave Camz, Apr 1. 2016, 16:23
have a look at my take on it at Dave Camz. I didn't use all on EWS one. what I do know is this really needs to steep for 3 weeks for best results, shaking daily...
#74 by CuriousVaper, Apr 1. 2016, 16:36
Hmmm... will let it steep then for few weeks... I saw your recipe Dave Camz, how did this turn out... especially on the sweetness.

I just tried another one in parallel.... take a look at and advise what you feel... Just made a 30 ml batch. Dint try it though :).... Gonna let it steep with Oak chips for 3 weeks just like five pawn does, lets see... fingers crossed !!!

#75 by Dave Camz, Apr 1. 2016, 17:58
my one is not as strong as original as I had them side by side, my adaption is not as strong which suits me, a lot more vapeable than the original for me, just a matter of taste. but you really have to let this one steep for a while, the flavour really does change after 14 days and more
#76 by CuriousVaper, Apr 1. 2016, 18:04
Thanks Dave Camz... Will let it steep !!! I will try out a batch of your recipe as well .... Cheers
#77 by Dave Camz, Apr 1. 2016, 22:01
ok curious leave a comment on my one when you do please mate...
#78 by turrione, Apr 2. 2016, 00:20

hello guys, when you add acetyl pyrazine ? 1 week ago I did 100 ml and tastes popcorn. 2% of acetyl is not too ?
#79 by Dave Camz, Apr 2. 2016, 11:08
it does seem a lot for ap but it really does get better with age and daily shaking, I know its hard but leave it minimum of 2 weeks then try. its totally different I never liked my one at first, you have got some r4eally strong flavours going on which need time to blend. if its still not to your liking then adjust. my adaption for me is spot on my recipe. check it out. comment on there if you like. but while I'm here big shout to EWS for idea
#80 by EWS, Apr 3. 2016, 14:52
Yes it does need to steep
I need the flavor strength for my 72 year old tastebuds that were burned out by 50 years of tobacco use
Please modify to your personal liking and report here on results
Thanks for all the responses
EWS
#81 by JoJo, Apr 20. 2016, 15:17
Let me start by saying I've never had the original. Also, I subbed FA Madagascar at 1% for the Vanillin and Delosi's Coconut at 5% for the Coconut Extra so take this FWIW. I love this stuff. Even fresh I could vape an entire bottle easily. I love coconut and this is like a super toasted coconut yumminess that's not sickly sweet. This will be in my rotation permanently now. Thank you!
#82 by Kostas, Apr 22. 2016, 20:36
I have had the original as well as the reserve (IV and V). All excellent.
I made a 20ml test batch of this but substituted FA Coconut instead of coconut extra (same perc: 3%) and FA Vanilla Classic (Madagascar) at 1% as JoJo above. Did this since I did not have the CE and I wanted to avoid the acetoin.
I also think i made a small error and added a tiny bit more of flavor. Still, this smells and tastes awesome just by shaking and resembles the Reserve IV. Tastes a bit heavier (which is fine) but I will let it steep and also make another batch tomorrow.
I love the toasted almond + kentucky bourbon, which will probably be used more in what i make.
Can't thank you enough for this!
#83 by masterstephenvapesologies, May 29. 2016, 15:59
anybody running this in a tank?
i like the flavor but ive been having gunk issues. on my 3rd wick in 30ml haha
brown sugar maybe?
#84 by rcavis, Jun 6. 2016, 20:43
perfect on subtank mini
#85 by Ghettotrout, Jul 26. 2016, 20:55
such an intriguing flavour. its a fantastic vape. Used madagascar vanilla in place of vanillin. thanks for this! 5/5
#86 by szopek, Aug 3. 2016, 14:33
Come on, I don't even like bourbon and this is so far the best juice I ever vaped.
Seriously, among few hundreds of mixes (mostly clones) this is the one that is most smooth, complex and TASTY. Used madagascar vanilla instead od vanillin and after 2 week steep it's amazing.

Thank you EWS for this outstanding recipe.
#87 by Jim77, Aug 6. 2016, 22:43
Yep, If there were two bottles side by side with the original and this recipe, you'd be very hard pressed to tell which is which...steeping is highly recommended for about three days for it to start to bloom. Have got two 100ml bottles brewing in the cupboard now! :) Thanks EWS! Great effort my man.
#88 by P00HB33R, Aug 15. 2016, 08:30
So I made a 1200ml batch last week. Right after mixing I thought I had made a huge mistake. Horrible! So I put it away in a cabinet.
Took the 1200ml batch out this morning after a 1 week steep the old fashioned way. HO-LY F@CK! Spot On!

@EWS thanks dude, by far the best mix ever!

PS. I also subbed the vanillin with Madagascar Vinalla, and I think that is the flavor that is so lovely and pronounced on the exhale. This is exactly what was missing on the V1
#89 by Framer27, Aug 29. 2016, 04:03
Absolutely dynamite. Thank you so much for this unbelievable rendition of perfection!!! WAY better than the original!!
#90 by Alex, Sep 17. 2016, 09:05
I haven't had any of the original castle long but I liked the flavour profile in the recipe. It's been steeping for 2 weeks.
It reminds me of a juice by Seven Scholars called Knowledge. The bourbon is very prominent, a little too prominent for me, and I don't get any coconut at all. This definitely isn't a sweet juice and the flavours work well.
I mixed it with a custard I had made and I preferred the sweeter notes so I will mix this again and drop the bourbon down, increase the brown sugar and coconut and may be up the vanillin.
Thanks for sharing, I like the combination of flavours and just ne d to adjust for my tastes.

This recipe is amazing. Thank You EWS! All Day-Every Day. Really hit the flavor profile after a week steep, looking forward to see how it develops further,.
#92 by RedHorse, Oct 2. 2016, 17:09
@EWS, thanks for this!
But for 65/35 flavors concentration is too high.

Thank you for sharing. This is a really excellent recipe! I made some and I am enjoying it.
#94 by KizPDX, Oct 19. 2016, 00:08
bwahaha. "spot on" smh. not, even, close. decent recipe tho.
#95 by kal4metal, Oct 21. 2016, 01:36
Thanks for sharing! I love Castle Long, however the flavour percentage is way too much. I just tried making 100ml with 50% less total flavor, 11% to be exact. I used 1 drop per 10ml of AP. The flavour is spot on! I just gave a batch to a friend who only vapes original castle long and he was speechless. Try this and tell me your opinions!
#96 by kal4metal, Oct 21. 2016, 02:45
Oh, I forgot. Also replace vanillin with FA Vanilla Classic (Madagascar Vanilla) ;)
#97 by Bl4ckH4nd, Oct 27. 2016, 12:41
Hey guys, new to DIY here. I just want to know if there is any substitute for the Vanilla Bourbon as I can't seem to find it anywhere and I really want to try this recipe as I love Castle Long but damn, that wallet hit xD
#98 by DDrama, Nov 2. 2016, 01:16
My nephew had a kentucky vanilla bourbon custard that a local DIY-er sells, it was excellent and was dying to mix up something similar.
Found this recipe and ordered the flavors I didnt have.....
I followed everything in the recipe to a T except I used the DX brown sugar and FA coconut (used same amount of these 2 as in this recipe)

Made a 100ml batch and it tastes like popcorn soggied by booze.
So disappointed. Will steeping help? Did I go wrong with the substitute coconut or the DX version of TFA brown sugar?
#99 by Wilkybob69, Nov 10. 2016, 00:43
Mixed up a 120ml last night never tried the original I saw the recipe and thought it looked an interesting and different recipe to the vast amount of strawberry recipes I have a dozen juices in my rotation and this has gone into my rotation absolutely love it its always nice to have a juice that's a world apart from all the other juices good work EWS
#100 by Koadog, Nov 11. 2016, 19:58
Needs minimum 5 day steep after a warm bath. Just sucked down 10ml today. Wow! This is a very tasty juice and will stay in my regular rotation. an ADV for sure!! I subbed CAP French Vanilla at 2% for Vanillan. If you are still out the EWS, you the man! Thank you~~
#101 by Koadog, Nov 16. 2016, 03:23
Follow up- still addicted to this juice, but I have noticed that after two days ADV my taste buds get used to it and the flavor tapers off. Hard to put down, but a two day break is in order. I am seeking out other juices like this that do not fit the typical fruit, custard, vanilla, sweet or deserts. I have too many of them already. Looking for another stand alone juice. Any suggestions?
#102 by MadTownMax, Dec 3. 2016, 17:55
Thanks EWS for the excellent recipe. Made 120 mls right away.

I used the following subs (just what I had):

- FW rum @3% (I don't have Kentucky Bourbon - well at least not flavor extract ;) ).

- Also used CAP Toasted Almond (same %)
- 4% coconut candy along with 1% DX coconut (did not have Coconut extra). I also have VG coconut (Northwest) may try this as well at some point.

Also used Red Oak (TPA) @2.5% instead of oak wood.

This came out great. I actually tried Castle long as one of my first liquids (before DIY) and didn't like it - this juice tastes way better!!!
#103 by Timmis, Dec 16. 2016, 16:07
Which brown sugar by TPA...DX Brown Sugar or Brown Sugar Extra?
#104 by DieterJack, Dec 20. 2016, 03:33
Ohh my fxxxking god I can't believe how good this juice is... thx a lot for this
#105 by Kötü Kedi Şerafettin, Dec 21. 2016, 21:59
Excuse me. Is not 23% flavor (aroma) too much?
#106 by BklynGoldie, Dec 29. 2016, 03:42
This rivals any store bought juice I've had, and all the various diy recipes I've made once I started diy. I get bored with fruity stuff and tried many nonfruit and not cloyingly sweet recipes but this beats all.

Now I just need a tobacco recipe as good as this.
#107 by BklynGoldie, Dec 29. 2016, 03:59
Is red oak TPA similar to oakwood fa?
#108 by MadTownMax, Dec 29. 2016, 17:24
I used TPA Red Oak due to a suggestion in the DiyOrDie video interview of Matthew Topolski where he suggests that Red Oak is the flavor used in many in 5-pawns mixes. It seems to match the profile I remember from the bottle I had.
#109 by BklynGoldie, Dec 29. 2016, 19:57
Thanks MTM, will try. I did some searching and found various folks saying they don't notice a difference when in a recipe, but alone the red oak is a bit more coconut forward with sweetness but nothing huge. Both seem to go great with Bourbon/whiskey and tobaccos
#110 by mowgs, Jan 23. 2017, 00:22
hi first off i would like to thank you EWS this is a lovely juice .i bought all just as listed no subs. made a 30 ml and tried after 2 days .wow think im in ejuice heaven thank you .will be making 3 more 30 ml to let steep. Just a quick question does the flavour change that much after a good steep? thanks again really enjoying this.will check out all your other recipes.thank you.wish there was more recipes as good as this.
#111 by mowgs, Jan 23. 2017, 00:23
5 stars from me.deserves much more praise
#112 by EWS, Jan 28. 2017, 21:03
@BklynGoldie - Yes TFA Red Oak can be substituted
#113 by smt, Feb 5. 2017, 02:24
Absolutely fantastic recipe, this is SUPER. I made it exactly as recipes calls, no subs. IMPORTANT : this needs 1 month of steeping, any shorter and the bourbon is overpowering. At 2 weeks its vapable, delicous but not quite ready, at 1 MONTH this is a stellar vape.
Next batch will try to sub madagascar vanilla for the vanillin.
#114 by Puxed, Mar 15. 2017, 00:18
I used TFA Vanilla (Bourbon) instead of FA. For such a complex recipe, it is amazing that this juice settles and becomes vapeable just in 12 hours. And the taste is absolutely amazing, this will be my ADV for sure. 10/10 Thanks EWS!
#115 by Fuat Abi, Apr 10. 2017, 04:22
@ews I dont have Oak Wood FA,how much should I add using Red Oak TPA?
#116 by Joshua Vapes, May 4. 2017, 04:21
Just bought the ingredients to this clone. I hope its good.
#117 by Joshua Vapes, May 4. 2017, 04:21
Just bought the ingredients to this clone. I hope its good.
#118 by A.D.V., May 5. 2017, 22:10
made exactly as above (but subbed TPA red oak at 1.5%). tried at 8 months. the coconut actually settled down pretty nicely and is a good fit for this profile. i taste a very buttery note but it likely is a combination of the red oak and something else. tastes like coconut brown sugar with a hint of oak, and a small fatlike taste. great recipe and ages very well!
#119 by Joshua Vapes, May 6. 2017, 17:36
I forgot to buy Kentucky Bourbon (TPA). So I substituted it with Rum and I had to add a little bit of sucralose for a sweeter taste when it sprays in my mouth. It taste pretty spot on. I will try with Kentucky Bourbon (TPA) when I make my next order. Thanks.
#120 by MadTownMax, May 6. 2017, 20:44
FWIW I subbed 6% Real Flavors coconut (VG) for the coconut extra and this came out really nice (finally got oak wood and kentucky burbon too). The oak wood defiantly gives a different flavor than red oak - if anything the oak wood is a bit more neutral but red oak tastes closer to the original for me (I prefer the oak wood / this version). The Kentucky Bourbon delivers a much better flavor than the rum that I had tried - I don't think you can sub anything else for the K bourbon and get the same flavor.
#121 by geothds, May 10. 2017, 02:14
I'm surprised people dont see that this is tasty only because of the aroma's percentage. 23% is way too much guys, no wonder this is ready even without steeping....try a different mix.
#122 by Trump, May 16. 2017, 16:44
Great recipe but 23% is almost nauseating. Drop the ratios till you get to about 12-13% and it's bang on.
#123 by Sh1tKat, Jul 7. 2017, 12:09
Tasted great, Dropped also the ratios to 18% for use in a RDA. Thanks for the recipe.
#124 by Bane213, Aug 18. 2017, 17:07
@geothds, if it's tasty, then it's tasty. Regardless of the percentages used. Have you tried this recipe? If not than don't cricize it. Lower % doesn't necessarily mean better tasting or vise versa. Are you a chef? Try using that same concept while making a gallon batch of soup. I feel stupider now after reading your comment.
#125 by John Atkinson, Sep 10. 2017, 21:33
Best vape ever! After a month of steeping(sitting in desk) this came alive to be the best vape ever. I tried it at 1,2,3 weeks and it was so so but after 32 days this is amazing. I only made 60ml a month ago but made 240ml today so I can enjoy this as my everyday vape a month from now. Tastes Like a smooth caramel, vanilla, smooth bourbon thats not to sweet but its a perfect combo that comes together in a blend of pure vape enjoyment. Excellent job on creating this one!

#126 by JMac, Oct 24. 2017, 22:21
I am in 7th heaven with original Castle Long Reserve but can’t afford it with the amount I go thru so I made up a litre of this version a couple weeks ago & it’s steeping in an oak barrel for a few months. Hope it is good, I have tried many recipes & although they are close all are missing something from the original. I get the brown sugar flavour but not carmelized, pushing it but i’m hoping the barrel helps.
#127 by BklynGoldie, Oct 29. 2017, 01:11
@Jmac This is still one of my favorite (if not #1) recipes, just the way it is, no subs/changes (except red oak for oak wood which makes little diff). I see complaints about the 23% flavor. I like it but I'm an intense flavor guy. It could possibly be cut in half and still be fine.

If you're tired of all the sweets/fruits recipes, this is a great 'savory'. Im still looking for other savory recipes as delicious and nuanced as this, but none have made it to the top.
#128 by JMac, Oct 29. 2017, 02:19
@BklynGoldie i’m a bit of an intense flavor guy myself, I have made this before a couple times in smaller batches but without the oak barrel so thought i’d try a litre in a barrel. 3 month steep is the plan
#129 by Matek's Mayhem, Nov 11. 2017, 01:25
Bought the stuff to make this, can't wait for vape mail. Hoping ethyl vanillin is the same thing.
#130 by BklynGoldie, Dec 16. 2017, 04:47
@Jmac It's almost 2 months....have you cheated and sampled yet? You're a stronger person than me, I wouldn't be able to let it sit that long. I'm making a batch now since I'm leaving out of country for 3 weeks....flying from it is the only way to prevent me from tapping into it.

@Matek's Mayhem - so? Thoughts?
#131 by JMac, Dec 16. 2017, 05:52
#BklynGoldie I have cheated & sampled a couple tanks, it is good & another month will serve it well. The bourbon is still a little strong so it will be my Christmas gift to me lol😂 I would like to have a good CLR because it is my favourite juice hands down but this will suffice for now
#132 by BklynGoldie, Dec 16. 2017, 18:03
@jmac definitely bourbon forward/heavy and doesn’t dissipate much IMO. I’ve made batches with it reduced a percent or 2 and it was fine
#133 by EWS, Dec 21. 2017, 03:56
All the people that complain about too much bourbon and too much flavoring - I understand completely! but remember I was making this for myself; 74 years old, burned out taste buds, and loves bourbon.
Just made my 16th 200ml batch tonight! VAPE ON!
#134 by Joshua Vapes, Dec 21. 2017, 04:08
I love it EWS. I like strong, rich flavors.
#135 by JMac, Dec 21. 2017, 04:20
@EWS I’m not complaining, it is a fantastic vape. just the way It is for me & the bourbon has settled with another 2 weeks in the oak barrel. great job
#136 by BadWolf0312, Jan 8. 2018, 09:37
I changed this to 6mg Nic and 50/50 pg/vg and I have vaped thru several 120ml bottles. IMO this is the best juice I have ever vaped and I vape it every day.
#137 by gorman, Feb 12. 2018, 21:53
Tried so very hard to let it steep. After twelve days, judging by the sublime smell, I had to try it.
EWS, what a *great* clone recipe you have gifted us with.
Really, really good. THANK YOU!

For people complaining about the aromas percentage, I'd bet good money that the original recipe is not that much lighter on aroma percentage. Generally speaking all Five Pawns originals are very strong in aroma, IMHO.
#138 by BklynGoldie, Feb 13. 2018, 05:13
@EWS if this is your favorite recipe, what is 2nd favorite? I can't find anything that comes close.
#139 by LAGONAS, Apr 29. 2018, 10:19
hello ews the red oak wood is the same with oak wood?
#140 by LAGONAS, Apr 29. 2018, 10:26
and one more the Bourbon (Vanilla Bourbon) (FA) is the same with madagascar bourbon vanilla? i want to make this recipe but i dont know if thos liquids are the same
#141 by BklynGoldie, May 20. 2018, 23:18
@lagonas you can easily use either red oak or oak wood. I use both and while there's a subtle difference, the recipe is fantastic with either.
#142 by Sebastian Sas, Jun 10. 2018, 19:14
Hello guys, I made made this recipe 2 days ago, but I have used Red Oak instead of Oak Wood. I tasted it today in my DigiFlavor Siren v2 and I like it. However I used 50/50 base because this is my personal prefference when it comes to MTL vaping. I dont know how it will grow in a week or 2, but I like the way it is right now with one small con: I wish I could taste Roasted Almond better. I cant taste it at all (nor the AP) but maybe thats just because it hasnt steeped for enough time so far. From your experience, can you tell me how is this going to develop (taste-wise). You all know how it tastes after 2 days, but is it different after one or 2 weeks ?
#143 by karamonde, Jul 1. 2018, 18:08
This is an incredible recipe, I am vaping it now after making it 20 days ago. I followed the ratios religiously and the result is great. The taste and smell are there, the blending of the flavours is as in the original: nothing stands out, they mingle and the result is great.
To be fair, this is about 90-95% there in my opinion, but I didn't expect it will be even that close! It is missing something that I can't put my finger on, but for the quality of this recipe I don't care enough to. Actually the more I vape it the more I forget what the original is like, perhaps it is missing some subtle sweetness that Castle Long has (despite not being a sweet juice). This is really great, I can't believe I am blowing clouds with Castle Long!
#144 by Fleming, Jul 14. 2018, 02:55
I’ve let this steep for a month and a half and all I taste is peroxide 😩
#145 by ProjectNL, Aug 7. 2018, 11:03
I like it. had just a view puffs, but the sweet bourbon with oak up front and a coconut taste that stays for a while after. i normally chain vape, but with this i more or less sip it to enjoy the aftertaste. Like a good bourbon. great.
#146 by Pedrao, Sep 3. 2018, 22:55
Taste great. ! It is pretty dark color ejuice, because of brown sugar and Oak Good.
#147 by Great British Vape Off, Sep 5. 2018, 23:44
I’ve been vaping this for some time now and absolutely love it. Literally a couple of litres over the last couple of years. Thanks so much! Recently though, I’ve been experimenting with different bourbon vanillas and I have to say TPA’s Madagascan bourbon vanilla at the same percentage has, imho, been the best so far. I’ve never tried the original and don’t think I need to. This is my all time favourite recipe.
#148 by Great British Vape Off, Sep 5. 2018, 23:57
To qualify my above comment, the Madagascan seems to have a darker and maltier flavour that lends itself really well to this profile. It’s also less noticeable than the other vanillas which lets the Kentucky and almond through more cleanly. Can’t recommend it enough.

One thing I’d also mention about this recipe is that it needs to be made in small batches. After a month or so, the flavours meld to a very buttery and not very pleasant tasting juice (probably the high AP and caramel). It absolutely needs the kick of the high notes and definitely shouldn’t be breathed.
#149 by Great British Vape Off, Sep 6. 2018, 00:08
5 stars from me 👍
#150 by BklynGoldie, Sep 9. 2018, 13:51
@EWS you still around young man?
#151 by EWS, Sep 9. 2018, 18:23
@ BklynGoldie Yep I'm still around and still vaping. How about you?
#152 by Balakay, Sep 15. 2018, 18:33
Excellent. Five stars.
#153 by Joshua Vapes, Sep 17. 2018, 05:39
I'm making another bottle of this i cant live without it.
#154 by Balakay, Oct 17. 2018, 03:34
Others have said it and I will repeat it. I prefer this fresh. But fresh or not, hands down my favorite vape. Actually makes me sad I can't find anything that I like as much as this. Not sure if this is the place to ask but, suggestions anyone?
#155 by BklynGoldie, Oct 17. 2018, 15:07
@balakay I’m 100% with you. Love it just fine and strong without steep, and have yet to find any other recipe to rival this. Especially for those of us not so into fruit flavors. This one is very mature.
#156 by Balakay, Oct 22. 2018, 04:01
@BklynGoldie only one thing left to do. Start our own new collaborative recipe.
#157 by vbajic, Dec 18. 2018, 04:42
I have been a long time user of Castle Long by Five Pawns. This recipe is phenomenal and it comes very close to the original. It is slightly different than the original but not in a bad way. I highly recommend this recipe to anyone who likes Castle Long
#158 by Nikos D, Jan 12. 2019, 19:09
I have used considerably lower amounts of flavour (from 23% to about 16% in total) and I still feel that it is pretty strong. I will give it a little bit more time to settle/cure/steep but I will probably give it one more try with even less flavour.

For the record, I haven't tried the original.
#159 by Balakay, Jan 12. 2019, 22:23
I also use less flavor, Nikos, depending on the device I'm using. I make up the recipe at 23% and 20mg nic, and I use this in MTL and pod systems. For sub ohm vaping I dilute the 23% stuff with pure VG, down to 11.5% and 10mg nic per mL. Half strength. Still plenty strong IMO.
#160 by Nikos D, Jan 12. 2019, 22:35
Thanks Balakay for confirming it, helps a lot!
#161 by Great British Vape Off, Jan 13. 2019, 09:45
Yeah, I’ve now started dropping the percentages considerably and working with what I want from this recipe. It really doesn’t need to be a 23% in a sub ohm.
#162 by Nikos D, Jan 19. 2019, 22:33
I don't get it. I see all these comments above with the raven comments but I really don't like it :(

It is super strong and really harsh and I'm pretty sure it is also very nasty with my coils. Maybe it's not my profile or maybe I did something wrong during the mixing.

I am tempted on one hard to mix it again and make sure I do it correctly but I'm hesitant on the other hand.
#163 by Balakay, Jan 20. 2019, 00:49
I think it needs more bourbon. Try adding more bourbon. :)
#164 by mostrenco, Jan 21. 2019, 00:19
@NikosD think dnt take this last comment seriously... personally i mixed 300ml of this liquid, drank in rda the first 100 straight away, love castle long (current, european non reservish version) and loved those first ml of wood and liquor... 23 cold days later couldt wait anymore to taste the next 200ml...and now the bourbon and the oak are a LOT weaker... @EWS is how do you vape your recipe? and you @vbajic ? is this best on tanks?
#165 by BklynGoldie, Feb 13. 2019, 11:51
@mostrenco Clearly everyone tastes things differently. Some people may be ex-longtime-smokers who's taste buds are a bit muted, and need the stronger flavors. I just personally long stronger flavors, and don't sub ohm. I'm having castle long right now with my coffee and its about 7 weeks old and I love it. Clearly taste the bourbon, but less 'harshness' than day 1. FYI I actually like many juices 'fresh' that generally call for 2-4 week steeping time. The fun of all this is you get to tweak until you dial in to what suits you.
#166 by moowin, Feb 26. 2019, 02:51
so i made this 2 years ago and have moved since then and had forgotten about it so found it tonight in my basement looking for a air compressor attachment and bam hey there 340ml 2 year old bottle of castle long!! so found me a 30ml and mixed up 16mg of nicsalt and the clone and loaded er into my pod system and holy oh shit if you can steep it for 2years DO IT!! shit taste amazing and nothing like castle long just oaky and the bourbon is so smooth this is going to be a amazing camping juice for me and most likely my morning coffee buddy also
#167 by dasAnderl, Nov 19. 2019, 17:05
awesome....all day vape for me
#168 by CAKEMANX, Sep 5. 2022, 15:10
Just made some and it is excellent. Went with 20% less Kentucky and no Pyrazine. Its really good. Thank you
#169 by voskee, Dec 6, 07:35
that's my first e-juice made myself, ingredients came yesterday, mixed this today, that will be my favorite! Sometimes just to sweeten this liq more, its good to add a little cola e-juice to tank. Awesome!
