Notes
This has been my ADV for the past two weeks, so I think it's worth sharing. Inspired by JTJM Creme brulee, this does NOT taste like actual crème brûlée. It's just a good, simple combination of banana, burnt sugar notes and tasty but light custard. Close enough for me not to buy JTJM brulee again. So, nothing new, nothing fancy, just good. Not much notes to be made about this:

FLV VC leans more towards vanilla panna cotta and CAP VC towards the familiar eggy, thick custard. Together in this recipe they make a great custard that's not too rich but not too light. I will be mixing these two a LOT in the future.

TPA Banana cream, well, it's banana pudding and unsurprisingly plays well with custards. I sometimes get some pear out of it, too, which is exactly what I experienced with JTJM brulee, so it's clearly a winner.

FA Catalan Cream gives some sharp burnt sugar that cuts through the custards.

It's good right away. Obviously better, thicker and more mellow and banana'y after a week or two.

This looks very nice!
Thank you for the synopsis and the share :) :)
#2 by WhiteRaven, Jul 3. 2016, 19:11
thanks for sharing! :)
which other cream can be good instead of catala?
#3 by altneurose, Jul 3. 2016, 21:09
There's really no straight up substitute for FA Catalan Cream to my knowledge. This is a simple recipe so by substituting you'll change the flavor profile a lot. Try anything with a sharp burnt sugar/caramel/butterscotch, or go to town and sub with anything prominent that has some top notes that cut through, like spices, berries or fruits.

Looks good ! I'll try...Thanks for sharing
#5 by Dan the Man, Jul 6. 2016, 23:33
I can't believe how good this is, it did not make it past five day's. I used the last of my banana cream on it and now I have to wait for a new order to arrive.
I am really glad I found you. I can't believe how good you are at this. Looking forward to some more. Peace, Love, and Happiness

There's a big stupid grin on my face now so thanks for that, Dan :) Appreciate it!

First, let me apologize for experimenting with your recipe. So...I added .5% FA lemon sicily to this recipe. Wow. I like it a lot. it ads a "depth" to it, it doesn't change the profile at all. wish i could explain it as well as you do but suffice it to say, it works.
#8 by altneurose, Aug 21. 2016, 13:32
That sounds awesome, I'll have to try that as soon as I get my repleshing shiment of CAP VC.
#9 by Dan the Man, Aug 25. 2016, 14:53
i made a mistake bro. its .25% .5 is just a little to much. hope it's not to late
#10 by altneurose, Aug 25. 2016, 19:24
Nah, not mixing at all just yet
#11 by Dan the Man, Aug 26. 2016, 00:52
ya, i know how it goes.... i have been going thru a slump lately, just cant come up with anything
#12 by altneurose, Sep 9. 2016, 21:03
Oh right, forgot to say, .25% was a really nice addition, hard to describe but nice! Might go even higher when mixing next time.
#13 by Dan the Man, Sep 10. 2016, 09:19
cool. looking forward to what you come up with.

This is pretty good, I subbed Cap VC for TFA VBIC because I'm not a fan of Cap VC. I've been messing with a JTJM Creme Brulee clone for months and I can see why this hits the spot. One thing I've struggled with is that sweetness in the original. Vaping the original JTJM again I think the missing ingredient is a diluted Honey which is the one flavour I never bothered buying.
#15 by altneurose, Sep 22. 2016, 12:16
That's a pretty rough sub, but glad you liked it. The sweetness in the original is very probably from slight amounts of sucralose because it has that sort of sugar/candy sweetness. Or, if they use Cap VC, maybe from that - it's sweeter than VBIC in my opinion. I disliked VC for the longest time too until I learned how to use it (in moderation) and this is one of the recipes I personally can't taste the cloying eggy custard underneath too much. I really recommend trying this with Cap VC.
#16 by detect, Sep 24. 2016, 09:09
Ok, I made another mix with the Cap VC and yeah it's great. You're right after a few days the VC has gone into the background and the banana has come through. I think I've finally ended my quest for the JTJM replacement :)

Might I add that I love how the recipe is 4 flavours under 10%. I now only mix other's recipes that follow that same blueprint. Congrats man.
#17 by altneurose, Sep 26. 2016, 13:03
This curbs my JTJM needs, too, so great to hear, thanks! And I guess these kind of recipes are a good example that you really don't need that 20% to get a good flavor punch. I love how low flavor percentage in general keeps the juice tasting so good, too, as it doesn't shock my olfactory senses into flavor fatigue, tasting nothing and having to switch juice every day or so.
#18 by The_Ckemist, Nov 7. 2016, 17:24
I agree, cap custard is awesome, but I do laugh when I see recipes on hear with 15% in lol, that's crazy, the most I have ever used is 8% and I ended up backing that down a touch as well lol,
#19 by The_Ckemist, Nov 7. 2016, 17:56
Or and by the way, I made this juice a month ago and just cracked it in my KF5 with 1.6ohm kanthal coil at 12.8watts, and it's pretty dam nice indeed, it's a simple but very well made juice, lately I have been finding simple recipes are sometimes the best, u get all the right notes and nothing to complex going on, it's such a smooth vape with a lovely burnt sugar taste :-)
#20 by Dan the Man, Nov 7. 2016, 18:07
@Captain_vapor that is how i like to vape also. i have a KF3 for when i want a mtl vape. love vaping at low wattage and still getting a great vape with awesome battery life. So how do you like your KF5?
#21 by The_Ckemist, Nov 9. 2016, 12:24
I really love the kf5 buddy, I have it on the smallest airflow setting as well ha, I'm thinking of getting the MTl adapter for it actually for a little tighter draw, I never go above 13.8watts with anytank, I don't feel u need too, I also want one battery to last all day and it does at the way I vape, I tried massive watts and was using three or more battery's a day for the same flavor, u get the same flavour with more airflow and watts than u do with tighter draw and less watts, so I don't see the point lol, each to there own, and when I vapes with high watts and airflow I got nic sick all the time lol
#22 by The_Ckemist, Nov 9. 2016, 12:26
This juice taste amazing in a rose 3 also, I have it at 12.5 watts at 1.6ohm kanthal coil, I have the rose set to lowest airflow setting, well single coil with only one of the three little airflow holes open, each airflow slot has three little holes, it's a lot more creamy in the rose 3 and lately I have been loving the rose 3 for all my custard vapes..
#23 by The_Ckemist, Nov 9. 2016, 12:28
You really made a great juice HEAR though buddy, it's so moorish ha, I just made 100ml ha, I only make 100ml of the great recipes ha, I think the banana cream at 2% is perfect, even a little to much can be bad with bananas, this is perfect amount, I a man pleased I will get to use Catalina cream again,
#24 by The_Ckemist, Nov 9. 2016, 12:31
Hey Dan The Man, have you tried INW Cream Brûlée concentrate ? It's very very nice indeed, it's actually one of my favorites right now, I might even try it in this recipe in place of Catalina cream too compair, I'm using it a lot in custards and it's so good too ha
#25 by The_Ckemist, Nov 9. 2016, 12:33
Also if u like peanut butter, well more custard than peanut butter to be honest lol, Charlie Noble has posted his peanut butter cereal recipe on his website, it's very nice actually, link below buddy, as I say it's more custard, even though it has 8.5% PB the creams seem to tame it right down, I do t normally make 20% recipes these days, but now and again does not hurt ha

@Captain_Vapor yes indeed. Love creme brule by inw. one of my faves. let me know how the recipe turns out. i'm not much of a tank guy, though i hear they are getting pretty close to dripping, i mean rta's of course. a friend gave me a griffin 25 and i gotta say, for certain recipes, it's quite good. i have had my eye on the rose. it's between that and the kayfun5. i was leaning towards the kayfun because i know they make quality hardware but now you got me thinking about the rose again. eeny, meeny, miney moe
#27 by altneurose, Nov 9. 2016, 21:23
Thank you for all the nice words! Captain_Vapor, I tried INW Creme Brulee in this, didn't care for it. Then again, I taste a bit of chlorine in that flavor so if you love it, try it. It doesn't have the same top note spice/sugar, but it does add a distinct layer of fresh cream and some caramel.
#28 by The_Ckemist, Dec 8. 2016, 14:12
Hey I made another batch of this, but I upped the banana cream too 3%, and it's very nice indeed, I like the original, but I like this too lol, so going to make another 30ml of each ha, I always find banana cream in small percentages adds a creamy kinda brûlée taste, and u only start getting banana once u up it a bit, so it's personal taste, I now have both and that's all good too lol
#29 by altneurose, Dec 9. 2016, 02:59
Do remember to rate the recipe if you like it, cap!
#30 by Your Mum, Apr 21. 2017, 16:34
Very nice recipe, just cracked open a 120ml after 5 days steep. So simple, well balanced. Well done.
#31 by altneurose, May 4. 2017, 22:33
Thank you!
#32 by The_Ckemist, Dec 11. 2017, 14:33
Been vaping the shit outta this all morning lol, 20 watts on rose 3 wide open is the money shot like lol, I think it's way nicer than the heavy percentage custards that are way to thick tasting on hear, this is a fresh clean custard taste
#33 by Mindfloodz, Oct 18. 2020, 22:40
I just cracked this open after a 6 day steep to see how it was doing and its excellent already. Very nice custard! Excited to see how it develops
