NOTE: Re Hangsen Cream in comments below, this is not in the original, so don't bother getting it in specially. It's just a twist I like, which adds a thick mouthfeel.

Well, I was adamant Vapetasia's Royalty uses Cap VC1, but Mjcarlso was equally adamant it doesn't! I think he's right. The TFA is much lighter, missing the thick cakey/eggy note that I think, though not bad, was a little intrusive in my original recipe. It's also much more buttery.

The extra butteriness allows me to drop the butter cream. I've also switched to a richer vanilla, French Vanilla Deluxe (though I'm not sure it needs any extra vanilla at all.) Then some Marshmallow gives me the fluffiness of the original without resorting to Smooth.

I also tweaked the RY4D vs the A/P get a bit more caramel, and tone down the nutty note. The hazelnut possibly needs to come down instead. Finally, after switching to the TFA sweetener it becomes an all TFA recipe, which I think is nice.

This one is really close.

Edit 10 Jan 19: Updated the recipe to be a little more authentic to the original. Reduced the custard to 4%, replaced the French Vanilla with Bavarian Cream (which also has plenty of vanilla) and also reduced the Tobacco and Hazelnut a bit. I also decided the Marshmallow was muting so have switched that for TFA Sweet Cream, which adds a bit more butteriness. (For a bit of a change I sometimes use 0.33% HS Cream instead - it's different, and less accurate to the original, but I like it.)

Edit 4 Mar 19: I am preferring this with a little less custard now (3%) and reducing the Sweet Cream to 0.5% and AP to 0.25%. Seems a fuller flavour to me.

You are correct this is very close but I think its the buttery taste that is missing.probably butter pecan
#2 by UncoolTom, Nov 27. 2018, 18:08
I tried butter pecan a few times, but even as low as 0.5% it didn't taste right. Recently I've been using TFA Bavarian Cream instead of French Vanilla, and that works well. Also 0.33% Hangsen Cream instead of the Marshmallow.
#3 by Lyricalpoet, Nov 28. 2018, 07:01
Oh nice can u update the recipe with your newest results, i tried Hansen toffee but it wasn't right pretty good taste but not royalty exactly made a liter so it will be a whole before I make a new batch thanks in advance for nailing this vape
#4 by Lyricalpoet, Nov 28. 2018, 07:12
I'm guessing replace the two flavors with the Same amount
#5 by UncoolTom, Nov 28. 2018, 11:01
Replace the FV with BC at the same amount (1%). Replace the Marshmallow with 0.33% Hangsen Cream. I'm also using a bit less custard these days (4%)
#6 by MassVape, Jan 10. 2019, 16:10
I can only search for the tabacco tpa and is coming up DK tobacco base TPA and also there is others but another just tobacco is Tobacco c INW which one would work also I noticed on other Royalty 2 they are mentioning Pecan and also above UncoolTom mentions Hangsen Cream I have tried to look for this but cannot find. So I will try all and if you can let me know which tobacco to go closet to your TPA above Vanilla custard. Thanks in advance
#7 by UncoolTom, Jan 10. 2019, 23:28
Hi, I've tested over 50 variants of this recipe against the original and I found the TFA Tobacco to be key, and pecan even as low as 0.5% always produced an off note. TFA Tobacco is available here in the UK from Vapable or Chefs, and in the US from ECX. You don't need HS Cream as I doubt it's in the original, I just found it tastes good! But the Marshmallow works OK, or you could sub it for TFA Sweet Cream.
#8 by UncoolTom, Jan 10. 2019, 23:48
Have updated the recipe to reflect these changes...
#9 by MassVape, Jan 11. 2019, 00:32
so what is the TFA Tobacco I need please? I live in Portugal and the one I keep getting from my suppliers list is Dk Tobacco Base from TPA is this the correct one? Also the pecan should I just add that to your recipe and the pecan I can get is butter pecan would that work by FW? I have marshmellow and can get TFA Sweet cream. I love Royalty 2 so would be a great one for me to mix myself. Sorry if I sound dumb this is my first week mixing, I failed math so I am dumb!! thanks in advance.
#10 by UncoolTom, Jan 11. 2019, 00:59
Your first week?! Well, I wish you luck and I hope you have a good calculator and good scales :-) But I would not add pecan at all. I tried FW Butter Pecan from 3% even down to 0.5% and it always tasted wrong for this recipe. I will send a couple of links to the Tobacco flavour.
#11 by UncoolTom, Jan 11. 2019, 01:00
Here are some links to the Tobacco flavour on portuguese sites (I think!):

http://www.e4cigar.com/aromasbases/TPA/TobaccoFlavor
http://semfumo.com/tobacco-diy-aromas-tpatfa
#12 by MassVape, Jan 11. 2019, 09:19
Thank you so much for your message and links that is amazing thanks once again I will get the tobacco that you sent the above link for. I did not even know these sites and so you have opened me up to another avenue to get my concentrates from. Yes I have good scales and I am using the recipes from this site so all good thanks. I will let you know what I think of your recipe which I will follow above. Thanks once again and have a good day. Mass
#13 by MassVape, Jan 11. 2019, 16:07
Hi
I have managed to get all the ingredients but the hazelnut is out of stock from TPA but can get Hazelnut FA or FW which one would work the same FA thanks
#14 by UncoolTom, Jan 11. 2019, 16:41
FA is very different. FW is similar to TPA, but more creamy and a bit less nutty - so you could maybe add a little more A/P. Make a small sample and see how you like it.
#15 by MassVape, Jan 11. 2019, 17:14
Okay thanks just easier for me to get on my usual site and get all ingredients sent in one shipment. Sure will love it thanks for your help.
#16 by UncoolTom, Jan 13. 2019, 23:10
Hi, made it today with FW Hazelnut. It's much lighter and creamier. If you're using this you might want to drop the Sweet Cream and bump up the AP as suggested above.
#17 by MassVape, Jan 13. 2019, 23:28
Hi well I was going to get all the correct ingredients you listed so I may just go with the FW as it is cheaper and sounds nice as you mentioned. I will just follow your recipe above as I am not sure what you mean by dropping the sweet cream and bumping up the AP sure will taste good thanks.
#18 by UncoolTom, Jan 14. 2019, 01:56
I was suggesting leaving out the Sweet Cream, as I find too much cream tends to mute the other flavours :) Anyway, I'll play around a bit more over the coming weeks as this is pretty much all I vape these days.
#19 by MassVape, Jan 14. 2019, 08:58
Hi okay thanks yes it is also one of my favourites. It was the first tobacco I tried and loved it so I just keep it in one of my tanks and vape through the day on it
#20 by MassVape, Jan 17. 2019, 11:12
Hi
I am just making the recipe and want to leave out the sweet cream what should I bump the AP upto?
#21 by UncoolTom, Jan 17. 2019, 23:32
I would leave the AP as it is for now and see how you like it. It's very easy to add a little more, impossible to remove it.
#22 by MassVape, Jan 17. 2019, 23:41
Okay thanks I am going to make this tomorrow I did not get the sweetener so should I just not add this or do I need to alter the recipe? Also the recipe you have is with 1.5mg of nic so I can just change this for 3mg as that is what I take and that will alter the recipe is that okay. Sorry for so many questions.
#23 by UncoolTom, Jan 17. 2019, 23:54
Yeah, just click 'adapt this recipe' and change the nic how you like. Some kind of sweetener is a basic ingredient for DIY so you should make sure you have one. There are many alternatives and they are mostly much stronger than the TFA. For example I would use Capella Supersweet or FW Sweetener or Flavorah Sweetness at about 0.25%.
#24 by MassVape, Jan 18. 2019, 00:05
Yes I have Capella supersweet should I add some of this to the recipe?
#25 by UncoolTom, Jan 18. 2019, 00:20
Yes, 0.25% Supersweet works well for me.
#26 by MassVape, Jan 18. 2019, 00:33
Thanks appreciate your time and expertise
#27 by MassVape, Jan 18. 2019, 23:08
Made the recipe today and I use the Royalty 2 original and had some left. I blended all your ingredients and straight off the bat the similarity is unbelievable smells the same. Going to steep for 7 days and keep checking but already the smell is amazing thank you.
#28 by UncoolTom, Jan 18. 2019, 23:29
Great. Hope you enjoy it :-)
#29 by UncoolTom, Mar 4. 2019, 12:23
I am preferring this with a little less custard now (3%) and reducing the Sweet Cream to 0.5% and AP to 0.25%. Seems a fuller flavour to me.
#30 by Lyricalpoet, Mar 20. 2019, 00:57
So I just got some Hansen cream should I replace the sweet cream with it
#31 by Lyricalpoet, Mar 20. 2019, 00:58
It's pretty strong and taste like evaporated milk
#32 by Lyricalpoet, Mar 20. 2019, 01:03
I don't get a hint of anything from the flavor that resembles anything in royalty unless it needs to steep and settle
#33 by UncoolTom, Mar 20. 2019, 01:08
Yes, sub the SC and go easy with it as the Hangsen is very strong. To me it tastes like that soft whipped vanilla ice cream. Very different, but nice for a change. How do you like the recipe BTW?
#34 by UncoolTom, Mar 20. 2019, 01:33
Absolutely, the Hangsen will not produce a more exact Royalty clone. It's just adds a twist that I like. Sorry if I misled you - I will make that clear in the notes.
#35 by Lyricalpoet, Mar 20. 2019, 01:41
It's good can't complain I thought the Hansen was going to give it that egginess it was missing
#36 by Lyricalpoet, Mar 20. 2019, 01:43
I had some royalty today from my friend I'm thinking maybe molasses flavour or mutant if either of them are flavours at all
#37 by Lyricalpoet, Mar 20. 2019, 01:43
Nugan
#38 by Lyricalpoet, Mar 20. 2019, 01:45
I'll find a use of the Hansen in some strawberry or other fruit flavor like u said its very strong a drop will overpower most flavors
#39 by UncoolTom, Mar 20. 2019, 02:09
You could try a bit of VC1 for that eggy note in addition to the TFA - maybe 2% of each? I was using VC1 for a while, but as described in the notes, the TFA seemed closer. Never tried a combo though... Will do that for my next batch. And by the way, I've reduced the custard % to my taste. Not sure if it's closer or not... probably not, as I generally prefer things lighter these days :-)

TFA Molasses definitely has some 'Royalty' notes, but in the end I felt the RY4D covered that part reasonably well. Not sure about Nugat. The main draw with Royalty, for me, is that delicious and slightly crispy toffee note. Which I think comes from a combo of custard, bavarian cream, RY4D and Hazelnut. I will have to get the original again soon to make sure I haven't strayed too far.
#40 by Lyricalpoet, Apr 4. 2019, 16:05
Hey tom can u send me the recipe with the percentages prior to you lowering them I'm guessing back when you had added the marshmallow
I know you like it lighter but I think it was more accurate with the higher percentages
#41 by UncoolTom, Apr 4. 2019, 16:42
I believe the original was (all TFA of course):
A/P 0.5%
French Vanilla Deluxe 1%
Hazelnut 1.5%
RY4D 3%
Marshmallow 1%
Sweetener 1%
Tobacco 2%
Vanilla Custard 5%

I think the switch from Marshmallow to Sweet Cream added some missing butteriness, at the cost of thickness. You might try them both at 0.5%? Meanwhile I have ordered a fresh bottle of the original so may well come up with another tweak soon :-)
#42 by Lyricalpoet, Apr 4. 2019, 18:04
Got you ill be waiting on the new tweak
#43 by Lyricalpoet, Apr 4. 2019, 18:08
I'm won't be adding the marshmallows just wanted the percentages when they were higher its a bit light 4 me so I want to tweak the liter I made but it goes fast I give it to a few family and friends and they Told me it was bland so I wanna u the flavor
#44 by Lyricalpoet, Apr 4. 2019, 18:17
Up
#45 by Lyricalpoet, Apr 5. 2019, 19:32
Have just to let you know I been using flan custard and would like to tell it has a very light hint of that eggy flavor in royalty just so u know on the next tweak check it out
#46 by UncoolTom, Apr 5. 2019, 19:43
I'm not aware of such a flavour. Can you give me a link?
#47 by Lyricalpoet, Apr 6. 2019, 00:40
Here's a pic its vanilla custard with picture of flan
But I will say it has a eggy note to it
https://www.nicotineriver.com/products/real-flavors-super-concentrate-vanilla-custard
#48 by Lyricalpoet, Apr 6. 2019, 00:44
I'm trying different custards till I find the right one
It can probably be a Bavarian cream or something not even in my mind as far as flavors go but next liter I'm gonna try it with Hangsen ry4
#49 by Lyricalpoet, May 10. 2019, 21:36
Any update on the recipe
#50 by UncoolTom, May 10. 2019, 23:34
Still working on it, and have been round the houses again, having augmented the flavor stash with more hazelnuts, pecans, hazelnuts and cream, pralines, etc, etc. There's a lot more nut in the original. I think TFA Hazelnut is still the closest, but I am now also adding FW and tinkering with a bit of pecan with it. But what's really missing is the really strong sweet/sour molasses note, which I'm pretty convinced is coming from Hangsen RY4. Will post something this weekend hopefully, but probably on the other recipe, as it's obviously not going to be all TFA.
#51 by Lyricalpoet, May 12. 2019, 07:21
Yeah I got u.did u try the custard I told u about
#52 by UncoolTom, May 12. 2019, 12:09
Trust me, if you add a load more nut (as I'm doing now) you won't be fretting over any egg note in the custard. That's the savoury 'body' that's missing. I'm now using 2% of both TFA and FW (forget pecan, my testers are all 'off'), and have dropped the custard lower. But your Hangsen RY4 suggestion has been absolutely key... Thanks for that! I'm currently working on the other creams - possibly some sweet cream or vanilla.
#53 by UncoolTom, May 13. 2019, 00:30
Hi, sorry, I can't post a new recipe yet. Progress has been made but I need to let things steep to be sure. The cream has been difficult, but I'm starting to feel happy with adding a bit of cheesecake. Also, the 'bass' note has been eluding me - it's more than just hazelnut. But my tastebuds are tired (vaper's tongue) and I need to let these new testers steep... Maybe next week!
#54 by Lyricalpoet, May 13. 2019, 19:47
Fw hazelnut or a.p And I agree French vanilla deluxe was definetly was good in the recipe u made on Nov.
#55 by UncoolTom, May 15. 2019, 00:54
Has anyone noticed a fruity note in the original, along with a hint of cooling? I got a fresh bottle today, and it has that definite fruity tang, and I remembered also tasting it the last bottle I had. It steeps out half way through, presumably after air enters the bottle.
#56 by Lyricalpoet, May 15. 2019, 21:27
At one point I thought it had a coconut hint in it also
#57 by UncoolTom, May 17. 2019, 17:27
LOL, I think the slightly cool fruity note I've been getting is from TFA RY4 (the ordinary one, not the Double.) But I think that's because I've been trying to clone a clone (that'll teach me for buying cheap off ebay!) Just took delivery from a proper shop and it doesn't have it, and it's a much deeper and more savoury flavour.
#58 by Lyricalpoet, May 18. 2019, 02:59
I wanna let you the last one u made in November was better at the higher percentages but I'm a try it with higher a.p and hazelnut like you said ,but I think the Hangsen ry4 will probably be a step in the right direction due to the color of the liquid since royalty is a amber color ,and the dx hazelnut due to the color again
#59 by UncoolTom, May 18. 2019, 12:23
Try a mix of TPA & FW Hazelnuts, both at 2%. Also Cap and TFA custards @ 2%. A/P @ 1%. If you use Hangsen RY4 I think you only need 1%, on top of the TFA Tobacco at 2%. You can add a little vanilla - holy vanilla is good and strong @ 1%.
#60 by UncoolTom, May 18. 2019, 12:26
It needs a long steep. You can't go by the initial colour because it gets much darker with age. Shop bought juice can easily be 6 months old. In fact, I think that might be the problem with my ebay purchases. I suspect they could be genuine - they just haven't been sat for long enough.
#61 by UncoolTom, May 18. 2019, 13:18
OK, I have been checking my testers and have found one that seems really close. At the beginning the RY4 and the A/P seemed too high but after a week it has mellowed a lot. You will notice everything is at 2% - this was because I noticed all my %'s were heading in that direction, and then I got this mad hunch that the '2' in 'Royalty 2' was somehow significant. Anyway, try it and see... tjek.nu/r/tG3x?token=a5c9d86a18a138c
#62 by Lyricalpoet, May 19. 2019, 03:39
Nice I will make a small amount to check it but I need to buy some flavors I still have a one shot mix of the last batch so ill have to do that 1st b4 I get into this one but when I get the flavors ill let you know
#63 by Lyricalpoet, May 19. 2019, 18:04
Been doing some research from your posting, saying bout a fruity note
FlavourArt Labyrinth seems to fit your description check it
#64 by UncoolTom, May 20. 2019, 00:54
FA Labyrinth is a sponge cake? But I'm coming back to the idea the juice I had was a clone - not too bad a clone, just they subbed the tobacco. That might be because Hangsen are very choosy who they sell to. By the way, I reduced the AP in the mix I posted. 1% is plenty. Everything else still at 2% and it works really well, even off the shake.
#65 by coFF33, Jun 12. 2019, 12:02
Hey UncoolTom and Lyricalpoet,
How are we going, any updates?
About to pull the trigger on some 10ml TFA Tobacco for the tobacco flavour and TFA Molasses for the caramel/toffee flavour?
Did you guys ever confirm TFA Hazelnut (DX or standard?) with TFA Pecan was the nutty flavour in the liquid ?
I honestly cannot stand RY4D, and if it was in Royalty II i dont think i'd vape it. So it must be a heap of AP and TFA Tobacco rather than RY4D
#66 by UncoolTom, Jun 12. 2019, 15:39
I wouldn't be so sure about it not containing RY4D. Having said that it tastes better with Hangsen RY4 @ 1.5-2%. Don't bother with the Molasses, but do get the TFA Tobacco - it's vile on its own but @ 2% or so gives just the right sweet floral note. I'm pretty sure there's no pecan in this, just a mix of TFA and FW Hazelnut and A/P. You can try DX Hazelnut if you want - I haven't. I've done a load of other testing though and will be posting an updated recipe in a couple of weeks. But you'll have to be patient though, sorry, I have a lot going on at the moment.
#67 by Lyricalpoet, Jun 18. 2019, 22:40
I've not made a batch at all I'm still with the old batch still I made a liter almost done with it
#68 by Lyricalpoet, Jun 18. 2019, 22:41
Ill make a 30 ml today with d's hazelnut and the vanilla custard I think has that Peggy note will update u in a week
#69 by UncoolTom, Jul 15. 2019, 22:42
Hey guys, sorry for lack of activity. I am getting ever closer, but my standards are getting higher as I'm starting to realise Vapetasia aren't kidding when they say this is one of their most complex recipes. In the meantime, I think I've pretty much nailed their Killer Kustard. Check it out here: e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/3176498/Assassin%2527s+Apprentice

This is my adv. thanks Tom. Appreciate your work
#71 by coFF33, Aug 13. 2019, 15:01
@uncooltom
Can you please advise further what "TFA TOBACCO" is ?
I can find many TFA tobaccos , but none that simply say "tobacco" lots of alternatives. i wanna try your recipe .
#72 by UncoolTom, Aug 13. 2019, 16:35
Thanks for the feedback :-) This recipe has a little more tobacco and less custard/cream than the original. I like it as it is, but there's something much closer in the works.
#73 by UncoolTom, Aug 13. 2019, 16:37
If you tell me where you normally get your flavours I will provide a link to the TFA Tobacco. Meanwhile this is the link on the TFA site: https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/p-6805-tobacco-flavor.aspx

You'll know it's right if you detect that rosey floral note, a bit like grandma's handbag. Not too nice on its own but mixes well in small quantities.
#76 by coFF33, Sep 10. 2019, 09:22
Hey UncoolTom,
I got the TFA Tobacco on the way from Vapoureyes.
Will be mixing this up , this week :) (FINALLY)
#77 by UncoolTom, Sep 10. 2019, 15:12
Oh that's good. Let me know how it goes - and watch this space for a more accurate clone (basically less tobacco, more nut and cream).
#78 by coFF33, Sep 10. 2019, 17:23
post it asap if you can. im mixing friday !
#79 by coFF33, Sep 12. 2019, 08:06
Mixed. (30ml)
That TFA Tobacco smells super weird
but DUDEEEEEEEEEEEE
The taste of the mix, is JUST like Royalty off the shake, you are dead set 100% correct that the Tobacco in Royalty II is TFA Tobacco, that floral note/handbag note is exact. Madness.
Ill give it a few days to see if the Tobacco calms down as its pretty intense at 1.5% haha.
Cant wait to try this in 24-48 hours
#80 by coFF33, Sep 12. 2019, 09:07
Made a secondary mix with your notes / additional to my notes .

UncoolTom
Its been a week or more, ive let them steep with 3mg
The taste is delicious. Its very vapable and very much like Royalty.
Keen to try your new one posted above.

Question: Have you tried TFA Turkish instead of TFA Tobacco?
#84 by UncoolTom, Oct 1. 2019, 09:03
I did try Turkish but it was a long time ago and it didn't seem to be what I was after. I quite liked Hangsen RY4 as a sub - more punchy and sour, but not as close to the original.
#85 by coFF33, Oct 1. 2019, 10:42
ahh kk . Just been looking at other tobaccos in the TFA range incase you hadn't tried.
Cant wait to mix your new V3 when i get home : tjek.nu/r/tBjZ
#86 by UncoolTom, Oct 1. 2019, 12:08
Cool. I've rebalanced the creams a bit in the new recipe - seems very close to the original now.

Hey Tom I've been messing around with some new custard from flavormonks called divine custard and let me tell you it's on the money with the flavor note of the eggy note in the royalty ....plus I've tried many different Bavarian creams and flavor west is what I've switched to used this recipe to the tee just switched the custard and bavarian
#90 by Lyricalpoet, Jun 22. 2021, 20:25
I think I might go a little higher on the custard thught by 2 percent so it stands out more
#91 by Lyricalpoet, Jun 22. 2021, 20:31
I know u probably have given up on this seeing there hasn't been no update for a while but this is definitely the custard
#92 by UncoolTom, Aug 5. 2021, 12:44
Hey LP, thanks for the suggestions. I just love this profile and mess with it a lot, but haven't tried the original for ages now. I like FA Custard Premium, and also FA's new Extra 2 (hint of corn?) So haven't given up entirely, but you've prompted me to order a bottle of the original to get myself back on track!
